How Manga Changed My Life

C99J6aoWsAAlFzM

Over the last couple of years reading manga has become a really enjoyable hobby.

I’ve always struggled with reading since I was little, it’s difficult to put into words but I basically struggled to take in the information of the text which proved to be an uphill task when I was a University student. Luckily I had very understanding tutors who made my education very easy and enjoyable.

Around the time I graduated from Uni I got into manga and I must say I found it life-changing. After years of searching for reading material I found it in the form of manga. Suddenly I went from struggling to read one page to reading and enjoying literally dozens of manga and light novels.

Not only am I enjoying these stories as a fan but they’re helping me in the professional field as an artist and as an author. It may not seem much but it’s a very big deal to me and I’m very thankful that publishers like Seven Seas, Yen Press and everyone else exist to license and publish the manga that we all know and love. I’m also thankful for the Amazon Kindle, because I’m able to read and store so many manga volumes in one little device. =)

To give you a rough idea what I read, I’ll list 13 random Manga/Light Novels I’m currently reading while summarising my thoughts for each of them. =)

MY READING LIST

  1. Bloom into You (Seven Seas)

Volumes: 1

Yuu and Touko’s friendship started off simple but it develops deeper when they learn more about each other. They could become a lovely couple without drama but that quip made by Yuu’s Dad could be a hint of troubles to come. I don’t know why he would have a problem of Yuu having a girlfriend but the fact remains that if Yuu harbours those feelings it would put her in a tight spot.

2. Dragons Rioting (Yen Press)

Volumes: 4

This story is definitely unique, especially the circumstances with Rintaro. This is one of my favourite manga and it makes me sad a little that it’s never received an anime adaptation.

3. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (YenPress)

Light Novel Volumes: 7

Manga Volume: 6

Sword Oratoria Light Novel Volumes: 2

The first Light Novel I’ve ever read. I like reading all about Bell’s journey and how he overcomes his mistakes and trials in and outside the dungeon. I especially adore his relationship with Hestia, they’re like a young married couple.

4. Kampfer (Digital Manga Publishing)

Manga Volumes: 3

I liked the anime and took the opportunity to read it on my kindle. Although I’m enjoying the manga it is difficult to ignore the quality of the pages, especially when I have to zoom in to read the dialogue.

5. Kiss and White Lily for my Dearest Girl (YenPress)

Volumes: 1

So far the contrast of love and hate between Ayaka and Yurine is adorable and I sense it’s gradually blossoming into a beautiful relationship. Ayaka buying flowers for her “rival” is a sweet touch and proves that deep down she cares about her future girlfriend. 😉

6. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! (YenPress)

Manga Volumes: 2

Light Novel Volumes: 1

An absolutely hilarious story and I like how it’s written in the books. It doesn’t go into detail it just delves right into the plot, and that’s what I especially like about it. If there’s one thing that does disappoint me, slightly unrelated, is how the anime crew didn’t adapt Wiz’s introduction scene. It doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment, just a thought that came to mind. =)

7. My Big Sister Lives in a Fantasy World (J-Novel Club)

Manga Volumes: 3

I’m happy that more Light Novels are being published in English. I’m currently up to the part in volume 3 where Yoriko prevented Aiko from digging her fangs into Yuichi’s neck. This is an easy to read book and like KonoSuba and Re:Zero it has that air of self-awareness of manga cliché that seems to be the modern and current manga cliché.

8. Oh My Goddess! (Dark Horse Comics)

Volume: 1

Reading the first book makes me appreciate the era it debuted in, I find the story and the fashion very fascinating. Belldandy is such a beautiful Goddess, if I was Keiichi I’d ask her to stay with me as well! I also appreciate the references made by KonoSuba, especially the fateful encounter between Kazama and Aqua.

9. One-Punch Man (VizMedia)

Manga Volumes: 11

One-Punch Man, or as my Auntie calls him, “One Punch Baldy Man,” haha. I got my family hooked on Non Non Biyori and now I got them all hooked on the anime and given time, the manga too. 😉

The concept of this manga is wonderfully different and I find it inspiring as an artist how Yusuke Murata and One met and turned the franchise into a massively well-earned product. =)

10. Please Tell Me! Galko-Chan (Seven Seas)

Volumes: 2

Seeing a manga with colourful pages is very refreshing on the eyes. =) The simplicity of the story is nice too. I especially like how diverse and friendly the classmates are with each other, especially Galko and Otako. =)

11. See Me After Class (Project-H)

Volumes: 2

I never dreamed that this would ever get a license and I’m delighted that it did. =D This story is very humorous and makes me chuckle every time I re-read the volumes. It’s a tad disappointing that volume 3 keeps getting back-dated but it makes me look forward to it more. =)

12. The Testament of New Sister Devil (Seven Seas)

Volumes: 5

I keep on comparing this with High School DxD, I see many similarities yet major differences.

This harem story is visually appealing but one of my favourite moments is when Basara and his group battled against the heroes that filled one whole volume. Fan-service was not needed because the story and climax of that battle was very engaging. =)

13. Witchcraft Works (Vertical)

Volumes: 6

I love expressionless girls like Ayaka, I think her kind of characters tend to be funnier when they deal with situations with a monotone face. Haha. I like her relationship with Honoka and I find it fascinating how he was initially a girl before the story came to fruition.

MY PLAN TO READ LIST (10 Selected)

  1. Akashic Records of the Bastard Magical Instructor (Seven Seas)
  2. Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon (Seven Seas)
  3. Flying Witch (Vertical)
  4. Grenadier (VizMedia)
  5. Hybrid x Heart (YenPress)
  6. Monster Girl Doctor (Seven Seas)
  7. My Wife is Wagatsuma-San (Kodansha)
  8. The Testament of Sister New Devil Storm (Seven Seas)
  9. To LOVE-Ru (Seven Seas)
  10. Yokai Girls (Seven Seas)

Thank you for reading. =)

My 2017 Goals

It’s a new start to a new year and I have a mind-set that’s fresh and clear. I’m already feeling positive vibes from 2017 and I’m well underway with my goals for this year.

Socialising and Going Out

A lot has happened throughout my life. I always struggle with crowds but things are becoming easier overtime, especially with my new mind-set. I’ve accepted my weaknesses and limitations now but I persevere when I need to, both for myself and for everyone else. Despite my anxiety going out I do feel that I’m actually a people’s person and I often find myself putting everyone’s feelings ahead of my own.

I will try to go out more but only under the right circumstances. It’s all about dealing with each moment when it’s presented to me rather than analyse possible future events.

My Stories

For years I’ve been writing and making amendments for my children’s story and right now its under-going another editing process. I’ve completed the first book a good number of times but it was never quite ready to be published. As a result I’ve often lost motivation and lacked ideas to change. However, this is definitely the most successful editing process I’ve ever done for this story.

I’ve polished my writing style and grammar-correcting a lot and I have to thank reading different manga and light novels for that. The only materials I can read are manga and light novels but it really does go to show that no matter what genre you read, reading makes you grow as a writer.

Anime Art

I’ve changed my attitude and approach to my anime art and decided to take extra time to complete each art successfully. Last year I did get in the unfortunate habit of putting a time limit on each picture. Now I have the philosophy of illustrating at my own pace which goes hand in hand with my new mind-set for this year. You could say it’s a new beginning with a better approach and from now on I will emphasize quality over quantity.

My Current Works in Progress

-Requests (I’m undertaking around 10 requests and nearly completed 1)

-New Game! (This is a comic style landscape that features Aoba and Hifumi)

-Gaia: Mother Goddess (a more refined version of my own character, Gaia the Elf Goddess)

-Darkness (a single portrait of the masochist knight that could feature a few versions in different clothes)

-Valentine’s Day picture (to be revealed)

-Ai-Chan (going to attempt to shade Ai-Chan in the blue chrome shading style and see how I get on)

-Keijo x One Punch Man Comic (a crossover comic that is set in the One Punch Man universe but stars Nozomi and Non from Keijo)

I’m enjoying all these drawings right now and I can’t wait to see how they turn out in the end. 2017 will be a great year. =)

Thanks for reading. =)

Negativity to Positivity: Letting Go

Ever since I made my important life decision one month ago I feel a positive change in me, or more accurately, I got rid of a heavy dumbbell that’s been weighing me down all this time.

I haven’t changed who I am I just got rid of that unwelcome weight of issues that stems from my past. Because thinking about my past was a habit I became accustomed to what I thought was the norm. I recalled sad memories, grinning and bearing them because I felt that I had to and not once did I take one step back and told myself to let it go… until now.

Now I feel like I can shine brighter and show everyone who I really am, the positive side of myself without getting too anxious. I feel like I have more time for many things and nowadays I don’t cram things in. If I was going out in the evening or tomorrow I would try and squeeze in my drawings and watch anime with the thought that I had to “make the most of it.” Now I feel like doing everything more than ever and if I don’t get the time to finish tasks in one day I see those future projects as something to look forward to.

My new frame of mind has also helped me with my literacy. In the past two months I read 20 to 30 manga and since I started editing my stories I noticed an instance improvement with my grammar and storytelling and how I convey them. No doubt there is room for improvement as I’m always learning something new but I am very excited about my development as an author. =)

Despite my epiphany I’m still not fond of socialising. Even on my best day and after cleansing my negativity I still struggle and get overwhelming headaches when I’m out socialising.

Thanks for Reading. =)

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon Light Novel Volume Six Review

danmachi-vol-6

I’ve been very determined to not look at spoilers of this manga but unfortunately the excitement and curiosity got the better of me. However I was literally on the edge of my seat with Volume Six and despite knowing the outcome of the War Game, I was very engrossed with the whole thing.

I saw a different side to the story from the usual dungeon prowling to an all-out war between two familias. This could have easily been avoided if Bell didn’t take the bait and retaliated to those who insulted Hestia, his Goddess.

I was happy and relieved that Bell’s allies came to aid him when he and Hestia were being chased by the Apollo and Soma Familias. My heart skipped a little when Hestia confessed her love for him. I’m not sure what Bell was going to say but it doesn’t matter now. =D

My favourite part was the War Game.

Hestia’s and Lilly’s strategy was brilliant and cleverly devised. Usually I’ve been able to predict outcomes and moments in manga in general but there were a few twists in this battle that I did not see coming. I didn’t expect Ryu to use the Crozzo magic swords and I didn’t expect Lilly to disguise herself as that prum guy.

Lilly has shown in the War Game that she is more than useful and she played a very important part in Hestia Familia’s victory. Lilly may not be powerful but she out-smarted a lot of members from the Apollo Familia and crucially tackled Cassandra to the ground when she had a hold of Bell’s leg. Off topic for a moment, I’m happy that her situation with Soma has been resolved peacefully. =)

I liked seeing everyone’s point of view during the battle but I definitely would have liked to see more of Bell’s training with Aiz and Tiona. The two top class Adventurers played a crucial part in Bell’s growth and it was great to see more of Tiona.

Speaking of Aiz, it was a nice and cute moment to see Bell and Aiz dancing. I didn’t recognise Aiz being on the front cover, I thought that was a completely different person dancing with Bell. XD

I have my suspicions once again surrounding Freya. It seemed like she didn’t do anything apart from stare at Bell. However, I have a feeling that she had something to do with that amulet that Syr gave him that protected him from Hyacinthus’ magic.

I think that picture that’s been shattered in that golden amulet could actually be Freya herself. It’s the only explanation I can think of as she’s the only one who is helping Bell indirectly.

What do you all think of the book? Overall I think it was awesome and it’s definitely up there among of my favourite novels. As nervous as I was about Bell’s defeat, realistically Apollo was never going to win, even if he did, Freya would crush him and claim Bell for herself. XD

I could literally talk about this book forever but for now I will just leave it here and if you want to chat about it, I’d be happy to talk about the big things and little things of volume six.

Thanks for Reading. =)

Monster Musume: Volume Nine Review

monster-musume-vol-9

I’m very happy in the direction that Monster Musume is going in. Before it was mainly about the monster girls being introduced and becoming a guest in Kimihito’s house as well as becoming a bride candidate. The candidates, aka Miia’s rivals, just kept coming and coming and at one point I thought it was only a matter of time before Kimihito earned the nickname ‘Casanova.’

However, in the past few volumes the story has been branching out and is exploring the other monster girls and their culture without them becoming a bride candidate for Kimihito. I think that’s good because the last thing Kimihito needs is another trip to the afterlife. Haha.

Book nine was especially good and there were quite a number of twists that I didn’t see coming. I think the most unexpected twist for me was when Mero gave Kimihito CPR, or to put it another way, a kiss. If anyone was going to give him his first kiss I expected it to be Miia. Unless he already had his first kiss and I missed something? I know Miia kissed him in the second anthology book to turn him back from squid to human but I don’t think that counts somehow. Haha. =D

I don’t think it was ever a secret that Meroune was a Princess but I’m very pleased that we got clarification on this and the background of her family. We also learned that the Merfolk’s and Mermaids’ obsession with The Little Mermaid was the Queen’s doing.

The sudden change from the tension to light-hearted innocence is as funny as ever, especially the water based puns that I initially thought were grammar mistakes. Haha. =D I genuinely thought Octo was a villain but as turned out, she was the victim of a bad rumour caused by the Queen. In the end I felt sorry for her but I did enjoy the battle between her and Rachnera. You couldn’t call her battle with Cerea and Miia a battle as they were completely one-sided. XD

I liked the change of story too at the end which will become the main focus of Volume 10. I initially thought Yuuhi was a wandering spirit but it turns out that she had an incurable decease. I was a little sad because I anticipated she was going to die which I didn’t think would fit in this light-hearted story. However, I found out later on that Lala snipped Zombina’s tooth and turned Yuuhi into a zombie. Because of that Zombina and her MON colleagues are now all under house arrest.

Monster Musume is always funny from the get go but I’m always pleased how the story branches out and introduce other monster girls in different scenarios.

Thanks for Reading. =)

Anime Fall Season and My Thoughts

keijo-poster

I really liked the Summer season, it’s my favourite season this year. What’s your favourite? Now that Summer is over we welcome Autumn/Fall. So far the only anime that I’m planning to watch is Keijo!!!!!!!! Hip Whip Girl.

I know of Keijo and by what I’ve seen online it looks funny, quirky and offers something different. It’s basically a sport that takes place on water and you have to knock off your opponent with either your bum, your hips or your chest. This is a female only sport… if this becomes a real life sport I wonder if we will see this as an event in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics? That will be fun to debate about. =D

Keijo is only airing 12 episodes this season but I suspect that Xebec could have made 24 episodes due to the amount of manga volumes that Keijo have already published. Perhaps they’re seeing how popular this anime becomes before creating more. Maybe they have a second season planned that will air next year but haven’t announced it yet.

Whatever happens, I’m really looking forward to Keijo! =D

*

Right now I’m happy and healthy. I worked out the geography map for my fictional story and I’m soon going to celebrate my Niece’s first birthday. =)

My art is going swimmingly well. I recently adopted the colouring and highlighting style from the New Game! anime and because of this I’m liking my art much more, which I didn’t think was possible.

I am taking a rest from my drawing for now as I’m getting rheumatism in my fingers which means that I’m working too hard. It’s a sign that I need to rest.

I’m getting quite a following on DeviantArt and Pixiv and I feel touched by this. It means that my followers are enjoying my work and that makes me extra happy. =)

Thanks for reading. =)

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Volume 5 Light Novel

Danmachi Vol 5 LN cover

I thought this book was very dramatic and it felt as though everything was happening at once. Bell experienced the dark side of humanity and faced the most dangerous monster that the dungeon had to offer to date, a floor boss. It felt very realistic as this was the first time that they experienced the true horrors of a dungeon. Lilly’s wits and dungeon prowling experience proved to be useful in this life and death situation.

It was filled with interesting twists like how Bell and his party had to deal with a “pass parade”, how they overcame the odds with a floor boss and how Bell coped when he watched the naked ladies in a hot spring…

As well as experiencing the dark side of humanity from loathe-filled adventurers this book also showed that even in the dark, there’s a radiance of light that can lift you and comfort you. There’s a reason why adventurers have issues, some more severe than others, but these troubled issues doesn’t mean that they’re bad people.

This is especially true in the case of Ryu Lion who played an amazing but important role. She’s the one I wanted to know more about and see in battle and my wish came true. I always thought she was cool and after reading this, I think she’s more cool than before. =D

In some ways I feel that the dramatic situation was a work of Gods and it could have potentially been avoided as the Loki Familia took care of Bell and his party. The dynamics of the story changed completely because of Hestia’s and Hermes’ involvement…

Kitacon Karnival Experience: Part Two

DSCF0190

(Kitacon Karnival Experience: Part One)

  1. BAD START TO THE DAY

The morning was not the perfect start to the day, for many reasons. I woke up late for breakfast as my alarm didn’t go off. I also accidentally yanked off my golden wristband. I was trying to adjust it as it was giving my wrist a bit of a rash. When it came off I was like “is it really that important?” and threw it in the bin. It turns out, as I found out later, it was VERY important. I wasn’t allowed in the dealer’s room so I had to go back upstairs and retrieve it from the bin…

Then, when I went to the game’s room the crew spotted that my wristband was *cough* damaged. Zen guided me to Ops where the crew gave me a replacement. After all this I decided to go back to my room to unwind where I learned there and then that I accidentally locked myself out of the room. I left my keys inside. It just so happens that my brother had a second key.

I did feel embarrassed at my own clumsiness so I decided to spend a while in my room to chill out for a bit.

  1. DAY TWO at the KITACON and STREET FIGHTER TOURNAMENT

I spent the rest of the day mostly talking to cosplayers and taking photos. I found them all pleasant to talk to but my confidence was a little bit shaky.

Socialising is still a big learning curve for me but I feel like I’m able to read situations better than ever and gauge people’s reactions slightly better than I did the year before. I think on this day in particular I probably did put myself under unnecessary pressure to socialise and I think my approach to some conversations did come across as unnatural and nervy. Luckily all the cosplayers are very nice and understanding of each other, even though we don’t necessarily know each other all that well. That’s the kind of vibe that I get from everyone. It’s that kind of atmosphere.

At one point during the day I did feel like I’d had enough and felt I would rather be at home. But, I still tried to make the most of it whilst I was there and told myself that I was going to be more active in the evening and see what happens.

Later on I took part in the Street Fighter V Tournament despite the fact that I’ve never played the game before. I was never in it to win I just wanted to play the game as I thought it would be a lot of fun.

  1. THE MASQUERADE and the PARTY

The Masquerade was a daunting experience and it was the first ever masquerade I had ever been to. I was extremely thankful that I got a VIP badge as I was allowed front row access right on the side so I could disappear anytime if it got too overwhelming. I found that reassuring. The atmosphere was not as loud and energetic as I thought it was going to be, instead it was just cheers and clapping and I don’t mind that so much as we’re supporting the cosplayers on stage.

I did my utmost best to get as many pictures as I could but everything was happening rather quickly and unfortunately I didn’t manage to take as many photos as I would have liked. I was disappointed but I did the best I could. It went on for quite a while and I did enjoy it but I think it ended at the right time, at least for me personally, as I can’t really be in a room in a large crowd for too long.

I went to my room to have a long rest after the event was done.

A couple of hours later I found my brother and good chum Chris and we danced in the party. I liked the party on the second day more than I did on the first day and I felt that it was because I was hanging around with a group whom I was familiar with whilst interacting with new people at the same time.

I spoke to a very nice lady. I think she’s a very interesting person and I enjoyed talking to her. It felt natural and I felt comfortable, a couple of years ago I might have made a polite excuse to go away from an impromptu conversation. Instead, I braved it and spoke to her. =)

I was also part of that humongous conger line and I was near the front, right behind the person who was videoing it with her camera phone. The best part of the conger line was that a Stormtrooper was right behind me. =D That conger line was fun and when it finished I decided that it would be a good time to leave and go to bed. I was in a good mood but I still had a very bad headache. If I left now, it would be on a high.

So I did.

  1. LAST DAY

It was nice and calming on the last day even though I did feel very ill in my head and body. I think because I had been speaking to so many people over the last couple of days, I felt the energy was zapping away from me. It was the right time to go home.

I did manage to take some more pictures on the last day but I wasn’t feeling as energetic as I had been, but I think most people were probably feeling the same.

OVERALL

It was a very good experience and probably one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life. I think this Kitacon was a lot better than last year’s Kitacon and I think it helped that I had prior experience and that there was not as many people this time around.

I’m always going to be ill and be faint in huge crowds and socialising with people but I can will myself to ignore the negative emotions and enjoy the good times that were presented to me. I had the courage to speak to more people this year than I did last year and I even managed two parties in a row.

I had some good moments and some rather bad moments but everything I did was a big fun learning curve and I’m really glad that I went. I’m growing in confidence year by year and I’m learning to be comfortable with new people as well as with my current friends.

I’m also learning not to put unnecessary pressure on myself as things will happen naturally if you live in the moment rather than plan the future.

WILL I GO TO NEXT YEAR’S KITACON?

I’m not sure. There are more positives than negatives about this year’s Kitacon, for me, so I do feel more encouraged to go than not to go. But, I still don’t like planning or thinking too hard about it as I will feel apprehensive.

Thanks a bunch for reading, I’ll see you next time. =)

Kitacon Karnival Experience: Part One

DSCF0190

(Kitacon Karnival Experience: Part Two)

  1. LAST YEAR

I first went to Kitacon last year so I had a rough idea what it would be like this year. Big events like this can be tough and challenging for me due to my autism. This means that I tend to get overwhelmed in huge crowds, meeting new people in unfamiliar surroundings and loud noise. It was a shock to my system when I first went to Kitacon to the point where I went for long periods of time feeling faint and dizzy. I sometimes felt that I couldn’t think or move properly whenever I went to panels or spoke to new people.

I experienced a lot of highs and lows last year and admittedly I was anxious about going to this one.

  1. THE ANTICIPATION

In the end, after much discussion with my brother and my family, I decided that I wanted to go. Last year I think I put too much pressure on myself and tried too hard to experience everything about Kitacon rather than doing what I wanted to do.

When it comes to big events or social gatherings like Kitacon I will always feel faint, dizzy and suffer many headaches due to the stress of meeting new people and socialising. I’m very self-aware of who I am and I’m no longer ashamed of what I am. I will always suffer from these quirks but I’m able to cope and subdue the negative emotions that I often experience. Even if I do feel ill at certain moments I can still enjoy the times that’s given to me and think positive. =)

  1. FIRST DAY AT KITACON

I settled in the building much better than I did last year, and it helped a great deal that I got the same room from last year too. I got into the Kitacon spirit quite well. I knew that my art was going to feature in the Kitacon book but I submitted two back in January and I was not sure which one was going to feature. It was my illustration of Kirin from The Asterisk War anime. It was a really exciting moment when I saw the picture in the programme for the first time. It was a humongous achievement for me and I was excited at the prospect that a lot of people from Kitacon were going to see it. That book is definitely a special souvenir. =)

The uneasiness that I felt for obvious reasons suddenly faded to the back of my mind and I then had the confidence to go round and take photos of cosplayers in their amazing outfits. I was more confident at taking people’s pictures this year. I still had to prepare myself mentally to ask their permission but it was much easier to approach them. They were all friendly and I managed to make small conversations with some of them. This lifted my spirits and my confidence went even higher and I like to think that I was able to speak to so many people because of my photography. Taking photographs was the perfect icebreaker for me otherwise I don’t think I would have the courage to speak to anyone at all.

There were some panels that I didn’t enjoy last year, namely the Hentai Panel, because it was so crowded it made me feel unwell so I decided to leave. I decided to give the Yuri Panel a try but I was a little bit anxious about that panel as I anticipated it was going to be like the Hentai Panel from last year. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. The two ladies spoke about the concept of Yuri, played a few clips and showed a few photos of female couples, including Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. There were some very risqué photos and clips but it didn’t overwhelm me once and I think it helped that I sat right in the corner near the back so I could “escape” anytime but luckily there was no need to “=)

I was nearly tempted to go to the Burlesque show but by this time I felt that I needed a rest from socialising and big crowds and I went back up to my room for a couple of hours to be on my own in the peace and quiet.

After some respite I went to the party with my brother to dance to the loud music. I didn’t really enjoy it this time around as my body started to feel light and I was suffering with a really bad headache. I was really quite ill by this point so I left the party early to go to bed.

I didn’t particularly have a good night, I was restless for stress related reasons and for the sheer fact that I was sleeping in a bed that wasn’t my own. However, I wasn’t as homesick as I was last year and that was a humongous positive. The other positive so far was that I get to spend some more time with my niece as this was her first ever holiday away from home and I can say that I was part of that. =)

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for part two. =)

KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!

KonoSuba

  1. REVIEW

As of late I like the concept when the main characters are transported to a roleplaying/fantasy world from the “real world”.

I literally enjoyed every minute of KonoSuba, especially the characters. At times I felt Kazama and Aqua were hot and cold. One minute I thought they were cool and funny but other times I thought they were rude and self-centred. However, I still found them likable despite their occasional faults and because of their past lives and circumstances, it was always going to be a challenge for them to adapt. In fact, I actually think they’re coping well considering that they were dragged to a new world without warning.

Megumin and Darkness are both nice ladies but they’re both very eccentric in their own ways. You have Megumin, an enthusiastic girl who loves Explosion Magic but knocks herself out whenever she uses it. And you have Darkness, who seems reasonably sensible, but is clearly not trained in sword combat and is a massive masochist. I bet she didn’t hone her skills so she would deliberately and naturally lose against a monster. Haha.

I even liked the supporting cast, Wiz, Luna, Eris and even Verdia, who I thought was hilarious and badass at the same time.

In this roleplaying type of setting I felt that Kazama and his fellow teammates were accommodating each other’s strengths and weaknesses. I feel that it’s refreshing that Kazama isn’t overpowered; rather, he literally worked his way up from the bottom along with Aqua. He uses his whit to beat his opponents rather than power. He’s proven to me that you don’t have to be the stronger fighter to win a fight.

This is party is balanced, yet, unbalanced at the same time. They managed to get the job done in the end but it isn’t without severe repercussions, mostly caused by Aqua. Haha.

What I liked the most about this show was the comedy. I think the comic timing is used brilliantly and very unexpectedly. There were some moments that I thought was going to turn into a sad/cliché scene, yet, something humorous happened and completely undermines the serious moment from before. I thought those moments were absolutely glorious. =D

The battles were very engaging too. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the fights despite the fact that this show isn’t really a battle anime. I was really engaged because I enjoyed the story and humour that went with the action. My favourite moments came when Kazama and co fought Verdia the Dullahan.

This is my favourite anime of the winter season. It went to the point when I kept on re-watching certain episodes over and over again and no doubt in the future I will keep on watching this show over and over again.

I reckon it’s only a matter of time before YenPress licences the manga and light novel as they have license to the Dragon Age publishers and KonoSuba are published by Dragon Age. They recently licensed Grim Reaper and Four Girlfriends and I’m completely over the moon about that. =D
