Life and Decisions

manga_girls__yoko_littner__colour_version__by_alphadeltazeta-dalu1j3

I made a big decision today over a matter that I’ve been debating for years regarding writing an auto-biography about my life with Autism. Basically, I decided against it.

Since school I always envisioned myself writing an auto-biography as I felt it was my duty to rather than wanting to. Every time I dug down to my memory roots I would always end up feeling sad and feeding myself negativity. Nowadays I’m blessed with the fact that I can move on from the past but I had big problems when I was little, especially when trying to communicate with others. It was painful and frustrating not being able to talk to the point where it felt like they happened yesterday. I can still remember the pain I was in and how sad I was.

One day, today, I thought to myself if this was really worth it. Is it worth digging into my past and re-living those painful memories for the sake of sharing my story and possibly making some money through book sales? I came to the decision that it’s not worth it. I don’t want to think about those times let alone talk about them so why should I torture myself? I have a lot of wonderful stuff going on in my life right now and no matter how I look at it, living in the present, today, is far superior than re-calling the memories of the past. =)

With that, let’s talk about how good today is. =D

*

My life is wonderful at the minute. I’m editing my book after a few family discussions and I’m in the process of creating a huge database for my fantasy book so I can keep on top of my own information. =D

I’m really happy and touched by the amount of support I’m receiving throughout social media and art sites. =D I’m just happy if one person looks at my art but some of my art are getting more than 1 view. Some get over 10, some over 100 and remarkably some over 1000. Before I joined Deviantart I never would have predicted that I would receive so much activity with my art. Joining Deviantart is definitely one of my best life decisions to date.

I’m in the midst of tackling some fanart requests as I feel I’m ready to give it a go. So far I’ve completed 1 request out of 5 and at this moment I’m coping with the pressure rather well. I was asked to update my Yoko Littner picture by adding more colours and correcting the length of her right glove.

The final good news is that I recently reached the landmark of 30 completed pictures from my Manga Girls series. I find this exciting as this simple style of black and white with only the hair and eyes coloured allows me the freedom and time to complete pictures quicker. If I include backgrounds I focus too hard and take too long but if it’s just the lady, I can go all out as drawing girls seems to be my forte.

I amended and employed plenty of styles along the way and I actually think I get better every time I touch the tablet with my pen.

Thank you for reading, have a great weekend everyone. =D

Negativity to Positivity: Epiphany

reina_izumi_by_alphadeltazeta-d9ux73e

I think its human nature to get down in the dumps sometimes, and it’s happened to the best of us. It happens to me from time to time, especially when I’m tired or whenever I’m anticipating the thought of socialising with people.

Sometimes when I think about going out, it can trigger negative emotions in me. However, just because you feel sad or think sad doesn’t mean you should succumb to it. I can stop it, not by fighting those feelings, but rather, override them with the positives. And when I do, I end up feeling much better.

At the beginning of the year I had a throat and a chest infection. It was really bad and I had it for weeks. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t read or go on the laptop as it made me feel dizzy, I felt constantly sick and I couldn’t talk without coughing. All I could do was lie down. It wasn’t a very pleasant experience and it was the worst I had felt in years.

I didn’t like feeling sorry for myself so I ended up willing myself to draw. ‘One little sketch couldn’t hurt’ I thought… I ended up doing back to back drawings and actually completed a full length comic based on the DanMachi series. It was the first ever doujin (fanmade comic) I’ve ever completed. I was really happy and fulfilled with my comic and additional art and gradually, I felt myself getting better because I was ignoring my illness and indulging in my own happiness.

Since my recovery I achieved a number of other personal goals too.

I suddenly had the urge to re-write my first children’s picture book and I completed it in a single day. I’m really happy with it and I feel that it’s much better than ever before. It’s now currently in the editing stage where I’m getting the opinion of family and friends alike before publishing it on Kindle. =)

The other big achievement for me is that one of my pictures was featured in the Kitacon Karnival booklet this year. My brother encouraged me to email the picture over to them and I thought “why not?” so I submitted a picture of Kirin Toudou from The Asterisk War anime and to my surprise and delight it was in that book! =D This year’s Kitacon convention was good and I enjoyed it more than last year as I managed to be brave and speak to more people.

There has been lot of good things that has happened to. I cooked eggs benedict based on Erina’s recipe from the Food Wars anime, getting my first ever platinum trophy which I achieved on the Atelier Shallie game, creating a YouTube Vlog channel about Football and most recently I received a like on a Twitter post from the one and only Alan Shearer… that truly was a heart-stopping moment. =D

*

What I’m trying to say really is that you can take the positives from the negatives, even when you are really ill. I took one positive from the time when I wasn’t in the mood to think positive and it has led to a lot of wonderful things, especially new and fresh ideas for my book which is especially important.

I will always get anxious whenever I’m about to go out as it’s an instant emotion that takes over me, but I will always claim my mind back as I should be able to think what I want, and feel how I want.

Anyway, this is the strategy that works for me and I thought I’d just share it. Now, I’m going to go and draw and make a start on my Birthday list. =)

Thanks for Reading,

Ryan.

Danmachi Comic Thoughts

Hurray, it’s finally here, it’s my first full length comic based on the Dungeon Girls series. I call it, ‘Is It Wrong to Try and Capture a Rabbit in a Dungeon?’ =D

I started this comic last year around the time when the Dungeon Girls anime was televised. I got the idea from the hot springs scene when Bell accidentally fell into the hot springs and saw all the ladies naked.

What if the ladies saw a naked Bell instead? How would they react? I played around with the scenario and decided that the ladies would react by having big nose bleeds and fainting upon the sight of Bell naked. Haha.

After a while I stopped drawing this comic as I started to run out of steam and wanted to focus on other projects.

Some of you may already know that I recently had a bad chest infection and the only thing I could do was draw. In that time I suddenly remembered that I had this comic was incomplete and decided to give this another go. After much editing and shading etc I finally completed it. =)

I’m happy with the overall content of this doujin. The main purpose, for me, was to have fun with the perspectives and blue ribbon/borders. I played around the idea that Hestia’s “blue string of fate” was covering the panel borders and wouldn’t stop until it reached Bell’s pinky finger on the back page. =)

I spent much longer on the drawing than I did on the dialogue. In fact, I came up with the dialogue in five minutes when I’ve completed the whole thing. Haha.

If there’s one thing that I’m unhappy about in this comic, it would be the inconsistency of the art style. I stopped and started this comic in-between other projects. and my style became more distinctive along the way. However, instead of drawing everything from scratch to fit my current style, I decided to just finish it.

It was hardwork at times but I’m happy that it’s finally complete. You can see the comic in full in the links below =)

My First Fanmade Comic

Hi everyone, did you all have a good Valentines Day yesterday?

I did. Yesterday I did the unthinkable and actually completed my first ever doujin comic. =D

It’s a Naruto x D-Frag Crossover. For many months I’ve had this image in my head of Roka (D-Frag) getting the better of Sasuke (Naruto) in the most comical way. All I’m doing at this moment is drawing and reading manga and I decided to take this opportunity to draw this comic whilst I was in the zone. In my mind it was successful as it came out as I exactly how I pictured it. =)

I also decided to give my original character, George the Robin, a debut as he makes a small cameo on page one. Can you spot him?

If you would like to see this comic, just check out the links below.^^/

I’m now going to take this opportunity to get some more rest as I’ve still got this rather nasty chest infection. I’ve got plenty of manga to read and anime to catch up on so I’m never bored. =)

Dragons Rioting Volume One Review

Dragons Rioting Volume One

I got this book for Christmas and I can’t express how happy I am that I’ve finally got my hands on the Dragons Rioting manga. =)

  1. REVIEW

To me, this manga offers something different. Instead of the standard of the main male in this ecchi/harem type of story you have a guy, Rintaro, who has a rare life threatening condition called “Hentai Syndrome.” This condition surfaces whenever he is sexually aroused and makes him go into a cardiac arrest. So, he underwent many years of training to discipline his mind and body, under the guidance of his Father.

Rintaro’s training was a success and he enrols in a school, however, to his horror, 99% of the students consist of girls. Oh well… R.I.P. Rintaro, it was nice knowing you.

I think this is unbelievably refreshing. You have plenty of girls, and certain girls, who are not afraid to show their skin in front of Rintaro. Whilst I do feel sorry for the chap I must say that the way he gets out of situations, like avoiding physical contact with the girls, utterly hilarious.

He avoids these “life threatening” situations by using the special techniques that he learned during his training with his Dad. These techniques are part of his Moon of the Reflected Lake. He uses these techniques in the most comical and mundane ways but he also uses them in serious situations and battles. Some of his skills and moves are both quirky and badass.

All the battles and little fights are exciting to read, and the art makes it even more engaging. I think Kyouka is especially cool. I think she’s like the female version of Kenpachi Zaraki as they’re both bloodthirsty during fights and they’re both incredibly powerful as well as durable. She’s scary but I think she’s strangely attractive. Does that make me strange?

The uniqueness and quirkiness of the characters make the battles and manga more enjoyable. That brings me nicely to my current favourite character of Dragons Rioting, Ayane.

Ayane reminds me a lot of Kirin Toudou, adorable to look at, sweet personality but deadly. To put it another way, I wouldn’t want to get on their bad side in a dark alley… or any kind of alley for matter. She is very likable and is extremely powerful. I like it how she displays her power to crush Asuna’s fighting spirit rather than beating the snot out of her. It’s very admirable how she’s willing to endure pain to protect her friends. She doesn’t really need Rintaro to train her but I do think it will benefit her from learning his art of fighting. =)

The battles are brilliant, the art is eye-catching, the girls are beautiful but the plot is refreshing. The three “Dragons” are gunning to be number one in the school but it isn’t without its politics as the Disciplinary squad demonstrated at the end of this volume.

It’s an on-going battle for supremacy and a personal battle for Rintarou to keep his sexual arousals intact.

Ayane Avatar

I’m recovering nicely but I’m still poorly. However, Dragons Rioting has completely cheered me up and suddenly my illness doesn’t seem all that bad. Drawing Ayane has especially kept my spirits up. I could literally draw her all day. The latest picture of her, which you can see just above, is my newest DeviantArt profile picture. I may make it my Twitter cover but I will see how I feel.

For now, I will continue to rest up. Thanks for reading.^^/

My 2016 So Far

Kirin Toudou

Happy New Year everyone.^^/

2016 has been good to me. I already like it more than 2015. I have lots of exciting things planned and I’m currently in the midst of doing those exciting things too.

My Story

My ultimate goal this year is to publish my story on Kindle. I’ve been reading a few children’s stories recently as part of my research and it has helped me a lot. I’ve completed many drafts but now it’s nearly finished. I’m nervous but excited about the prospect of self-publishing my very own story. =)

I also have a fantasy story in the pipeline but that is a humongous project and I won’t complete it anytime soon. I’m especially excited about that.

My Art

I’m continuing to upload my works on Deviant Art but I recently created an account at Pixiv.net. Pixiv, as far as I can tell, is like Japan’s version of Deviant Art but it seems that all the art on there is anime and manga orientated, where Deviant Art is all styles of art.

I’ve joined Pixiv around the New Year and so far my art has been very well received. I’ve been getting plenty of nice and encouraging ratings, bookmarks and even sticker comments. I’ve gained 5 followers in the process too. It makes me happy knowing that people like what I draw. =)

Speaking of drawing, I have a few drawing ideas. I’m planning to draw and create my own avatar/profile picture and/or a banner/wallpaper for my profiles for my Twitter page[1], my DeviantArt[2], my Pixiv[3], my MyAnimeList[4] and potentially for my Instagram[5].

I have a Tumblr too but I’m considering of deactivating that account as I’ve never really been on it.

I’m planning on drawing a simple face portrait of Alice Nakiri from Food Wars! for my Avatars. I can’t decide if I should use Alice Nakiri for all of my Social Media Avatars or if I should use just use it for a selected.

For my banner I’m planning on including a few characters; Cerea from Monster Musume, the four girls from Non Non Biyori, Ouka Ohtori from Anti-Magic Academy 35th Test Platoon, Mai Kawakami from Myriad Colors Phantom World and Kyouka Kagamin from Dragons Rioting. I have a good idea how the picture will look.

I recently practiced sketching Mai Kawakami so I can get used to drawing her. It took me a day but it was worth it as drawing her was a lot of fun. You can find the link just below if you’re interested to have a look. =)

Mai Kawakami Practice Inking

Yoga / Pilates

My first Yoga session this year was with a lady called Becky. It was the first time that I participated in her yoga class but I very much enjoyed it. I usually struggle with sudden new faces but I really enjoyed it as the session was calm and relaxing.

I tried Pilates for the first time the other week after hearing that it’s very similar to Yoga. The Pilates class that I attended was not really enjoyable. There were lots of people around and the atmosphere was energetic, which I didn’t like. I was in agony a few days after the class to the point where it hurt to move. Haha.

I think after practising Yoga for many years I’ve come to appreciate the philosophy behind Yoga. I now prefer the quiet relaxing atmosphere and the calming of the mind rather than fast determined workouts. I can’t say that I’ve disliked Pilates as I’ve only tried it once, but I will try another class next week and see how I feel about it afterwards.

I may even try Rock Climbing, but I will see how I feel!

Kitacon 2016

I have bought a VIP ticket to attend Kitacon 2016. =) Kitacon 2015 was one of the biggest experiences in my life and I think this year’s Kitacon will be just as important.

I’m a bit nervous about it as it will mean spending time away from home again and potentially socialising with people who I’ve never met before in a very big building. I do have experience what it’s like and there will be things that I will do and won’t do again.

I intend to take lots of photos of Cosplayers as last year’s Cosplayers were awesome. I have no doubt they will be just as awesome this year. I even have plans of cosplaying as a certain person that went down well with a group of friends last year. Can you guess who I’m considering dressing up as? 🙂

I will worry and get anxious about this so the best thing for me to do right now is to not think about it and deal with it when April comes.

Anime Winter 2016

There was plenty of Anime for me to look forward to in 2015 but at this moment in time there hasn’t really been an Anime this year that has captured my interest.

I am watching two anime from this season’s line-up.

Myriad Colors Phantom World: I’m enjoying this so far. I think it’s funny and entertaining. All the girls are cute and have cool abilities. I especially like it how Reina eats up the rogue spirit people and how the battles conclude. The limbo challenge was fun to watch but it also shows that you don’t need to beat people up to win a battle. I thought that was rather cool and I will definitely watch this on a weekly basis. =)

Dagashi Kashi: What I liked about this show is that the background art and atmosphere reminds me a lot of Non Non Biyori, especially as Coconuts own a Candy Shop. =D I find it to be very eccentric and funny, especially Hotaru’s antics. Dagashi Kashi is completely different than Non Non Biyori plot wise, but like Non Non I think it will be very easy to watch and I think I will grow to like it. =)

THANKS FOR READING

I’ve been really enjoying myself so far and I’m especially proud as I’ve recently completed the illustration of Kirin Toudou, which you can see right at the top of the page. I feel that it’s definitely one of my best recent ones as it’s vibrant and colourful. I think I’m getting better at drawing as times goes by. For now, I will take a somewhat rest from drawing. It won’t be a long rest though. =)

I will now take it easy as unfortunately I caught a bug again after recovering after Christmas. I feel a bit dizzy and I have been coughing quite a lot but I’m not feeling sorry for myself as I am just watching Non Non Biyori and other anime that I’m catching up on. =)

I hope 2016 has been treating you all kindly.^^/

My Current DeviantArt Experience

It’s rather weird how much I’m sharing my art over the World Wide Web. I always lacked the confidence to do so in fear that me and my art would get ridiculed. However, a few months ago, with encouragement from my family, I created a DeviantArt account with the view to share my work.

I’m really enjoying the experience of sharing coloured pictures as well as rough sketches. In the space of 5 months I felt a humongous confidence and enthusiasm souring through me. I always enjoyed drawing but sharing my art with the public feels like a big achievement for me personally. I suppose you could say I’ve always locked up my expression by keeping my works to myself but now I feel like I’m able to express myself freely without worrying or over-thinking.

After all, I never draw to be popular, I draw for enjoyment. I could literally draw for an entire day and never lose my smile. =)

Strangely, since opening my Deviantart account, I actually feel that I’m improving my art style. The recent illustration, Reiko Arisugawa, represents the sort of style that I’m trying to nail down in terms of colouring and inking. I really like Reiko and I like to think that I did a good job with this picture.

What picture am I going to complete next? I’m not entirely sure. I have a lot of drafts in the works but the problem with me is that I get so many ideas for pictures, I tend to leave some pictures unfinished and start news ones. That’s why it takes a long time for me to finish a picture. Haha.

I do have some pictures that are close to being finished though. At this moment in time I’m into badass anime girls wielding kickass weapons. In the final drafting stages I have one with Aiz and Ryu from Danmachi, Jurie Crotze from Atelier Shallie, Karen from Shomin Sample, Kirin from The Asterisk War and Yukina from Strike the Blood.

I’m not sure which one I will ink first but I will upload all them when they are complete. However, I do have other projects that I’m planning as well. I’m planning a couple of Christmas themed pictures which I’m anticipating to draw early so I can finish them on time. Haha. I even have my own personal OC character in the works. I don’t think I will complete her anytime soon though.

At this moment in time I will never set a deadline for any of my pictures as they will give me an unnecessary headmush, and that would never do!

Thanks for Reading,

Ryan.^^/

My Second Year Blog Anniversary

Goodness me. It’s official. I have been blogging for two whole years. Well, just over two years as I am posting a day late. Whoops!

I originally started blogging on WordPress but in July I opened up my own site as well as a blogging site, right here. I feel that that was one of my biggest achievements this year as it took me some courage to put myself out there on the internet, especially my art.

I think between November last year and November now my approach to blogging changed. Before I somewhat forced myself to write for the sake of writing it, especially when it came to reviewing anime. However, in that time, I decided to blog when it feels appropriate to talk about something.

Now, I will share with you some of the blogs that I feel were most significant from 16th November 2014 to now…

THANKS FOR READING

Blogging has become a very fun hobby of mine and I feel like I’m getting better at writing with every single post.

Now, I am preparing myself for the England versus France game. For once, I am supporting both nations, not just my own. Simply because there are things that are happening in the world that are much bigger than Football, and this game in particular will highlight that very well. I’m not sure if I will be able to sing the French national anthem, but I will give it a try or bite my tongue trying.

Thanks for reading, have a good evening.^^/

  2. REVIEW

I really do like the trend of alternative battle shows where people battle each other but without fighting physically, like No Game No Life. In No Game No Life Sora and Shiro battle other rivals by playing games. I really, really like that concept of a battle and I’ve been on the lookout for a similar type of setting for some time and I found it in the form of Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma.

I would say that Food Wars is pretty much as it sounds but I would describe it as a battle of chefs. So, think of this like Hell’s Kitchen or the Great British Bake Off but the competition is on a much bigger scale. The main guy, Sora, applies to enter into Japan’s most prestigious cooking school where the pass rate is 10%… or was it 1%? Either way the school has high standards.

I didn’t really know what to expect from Food Wars but I do know that I’ve really enjoyed this anime. Some of the battle scenes were intense and I found plenty of moments really funny.

I have to admit and say that I crack up every single time Soma smirks or grins. It might annoy Erina but it certainly makes me chuckle. I actually thought that I wasn’t going to like Soma. I thought he was going to be cocky and weird. However, I find him to be very daring, fearless, but above all, really funny. Erina, a high class lady chef, puts him down many, many times but he either doesn’t get her sarcasm or he just doesn’t care. Haha. I think it’s good that he’s not intimidated by all the high class students and I’m really pleased that he managed to blend in and make a few friends, especially those from the Polar Star.

I thought he was going to be a bad chef as well judging by his loss record against his Dad. However, it turns out that Soma is pretty good and it just meant that whilst Soma is good, he is completely outmatched by the much experienced Jouchirou. It’s pretty funny how they go out of their own way to create bad food and they find victims to eat it. Haha.

I think one of the quirkiest and funniest things of this show, apart from the wit and Soma’s facial expressions, is the female cast. By this I mean that when they eat delicious food they ‘visualise’ how they feel and either dress up in flattering clothes or they are stark naked. The girls showing their skin are easy on the eye but I also find it really, really funny. It’s ridiculous but hilarious. Haha.

The character growth should also be noted. Soma’s growth as a character is good and he becomes more mature and open-minded through cooking battles and during the field trip. I would say the biggest growth goes to Megumi, not necessarily through cooking abilities but her confidence and self-belief grows.

I enjoyed many battles in this show but my favourite battles involved Soma vs Ikumi, Soma and Megumi vs Shinomiya and whenever Soma battled his Dad.

I’m not sure if Food Wars was how I expected it to be but I do know that I most certainly enjoyed watching it. The major bonus of this series is that the food on this show looks absolutely delicious and they are designed in high detail. Every time I see Soma and co cook or bake or prepare a dish I immediately get hungry.

One of my life goals now is to cook a dish that’s been shown in the Food Wars anime. =D. Will I be able to do it? That remains to be seen.

Monster Musume Anime Review

Monster Musume Anime

  1. REVIEW

As a Monster Musume fan I was very excited when I learned that it was going to receive an anime show. However, I was half nervous especially when the official MonMusu[1] Twitter page was doing a survey asking us fans what scenes we definitely wanted to see from the manga. If they were doing this survey did this mean that they were going to omit certain scenes from the manga?

I’ve been watching this TV show very keenly and I must say that it’s much, much better than I thought that it was going to be. I was very impressed with it and I found myself laughing just as hard watching the anime as I did when I was reading the manga books. The anime does include a lot of scenes from the books but in order to make it flow they mixed it up a bit.

This really is a funny anime and it is very self-aware and it does take the mickey out of itself. I especially like it when the monster girls make a pun or a quip referring to their animal body parts. I think that’s one of the underlining charms of the series. The animal parts are not just the funny part of the series, what also does it for me are the characters and the well-timed lewdness. Haha.

I do think that there is more to MonMusu than the comedy aspects. The whole point of the story is for the Subspecies[2] to integrate into human society. That was made possible due to the Interspecies Cultural Bill which allowed the Subspecies to live in a human’s house as their guest to learn about human society.

The main guy, Kimihito Kurusu, was not chosen to be host but became a host for a lamia, Miia, due to Sumisu’s error. However, instead of complaining, he embraced Miia with open arms and became a very good and gracious host. Eventually he welcomed more additions to his non-blood family such as a harpy, a centaur, a mermaid, an Arachne and even an illegal subspecies, a slime.

I was somewhat concerned how the anime would handle Kimihito. Main guys in this type of show tend to be portrayed from one extreme to the other. However, like the manga in this show he has the perfect balance of the sort of chap that I like to see more often in an anime. He’s very aware that all of his beautiful guests love him dearly but he doesn’t cower away from their feelings, even if they do nearly kill him time and time again. Haha. He’s also very interested in them but he’s holding himself back due to his morals and he doesn’t want to break the law. What I especially like is the fact that he is not perverted in the slightest. You can be interested in a lady without being perverted. =)

All the girls in this show are brilliant and there isn’t a single character that I don’t like… apart from the racist couple and that dodgy chap from episode 6 but I consider them irrelevant. 😉 Kimihito accepts all the girls for who they are and I especially like it when he has those tender and affectionate moments with those girls. I find them very touching to the point where I nearly shed a tear. =)

To conclude, Monster Musume is very lewd but it has much more to offer than rudeness and I think that’s what makes MonMusu very special. I’ve been waiting for an anime adaptation for a very long time and not only did it meet above my expectations it has entered my top ten favourite anime of all time. =D

I want to say a big thanks to Okayado for bringing Monster Musume to life and he has actually inspired me in many ways, especially human relationships with mythical creatures. In my stories I always wanted to have a human man marry a mermaid/lamia/harpy etc but I never went through with the idea. I automatically assumed that the reader’s reaction would be negative towards me and my story.

Since Okayado introduced MonMusu and the manga became a hit in the western market he inspired me and encouraged me. Ever since MonMusu I’ve been getting epiphany after epiphany and I’m actually getting closer to getting my main story finished.

Thank you Okayado, you’re one of my favourite Mangaka[3] of all time. =)
Thanks for Reading,

Ryan.
