Dragons Rioting Volume One Review

Dragons Rioting Volume One

I got this book for Christmas and I can’t express how happy I am that I’ve finally got my hands on the Dragons Rioting manga. =)

  1. REVIEW

To me, this manga offers something different. Instead of the standard of the main male in this ecchi/harem type of story you have a guy, Rintaro, who has a rare life threatening condition called “Hentai Syndrome.” This condition surfaces whenever he is sexually aroused and makes him go into a cardiac arrest. So, he underwent many years of training to discipline his mind and body, under the guidance of his Father.

Rintaro’s training was a success and he enrols in a school, however, to his horror, 99% of the students consist of girls. Oh well… R.I.P. Rintaro, it was nice knowing you.

I think this is unbelievably refreshing. You have plenty of girls, and certain girls, who are not afraid to show their skin in front of Rintaro. Whilst I do feel sorry for the chap I must say that the way he gets out of situations, like avoiding physical contact with the girls, utterly hilarious.

He avoids these “life threatening” situations by using the special techniques that he learned during his training with his Dad. These techniques are part of his Moon of the Reflected Lake. He uses these techniques in the most comical and mundane ways but he also uses them in serious situations and battles. Some of his skills and moves are both quirky and badass.

All the battles and little fights are exciting to read, and the art makes it even more engaging. I think Kyouka is especially cool. I think she’s like the female version of Kenpachi Zaraki as they’re both bloodthirsty during fights and they’re both incredibly powerful as well as durable. She’s scary but I think she’s strangely attractive. Does that make me strange?

The uniqueness and quirkiness of the characters make the battles and manga more enjoyable. That brings me nicely to my current favourite character of Dragons Rioting, Ayane.

Ayane reminds me a lot of Kirin Toudou, adorable to look at, sweet personality but deadly. To put it another way, I wouldn’t want to get on their bad side in a dark alley… or any kind of alley for matter. She is very likable and is extremely powerful. I like it how she displays her power to crush Asuna’s fighting spirit rather than beating the snot out of her. It’s very admirable how she’s willing to endure pain to protect her friends. She doesn’t really need Rintaro to train her but I do think it will benefit her from learning his art of fighting. =)

The battles are brilliant, the art is eye-catching, the girls are beautiful but the plot is refreshing. The three “Dragons” are gunning to be number one in the school but it isn’t without its politics as the Disciplinary squad demonstrated at the end of this volume.

It’s an on-going battle for supremacy and a personal battle for Rintarou to keep his sexual arousals intact.

Ayane Avatar

I’m recovering nicely but I’m still poorly. However, Dragons Rioting has completely cheered me up and suddenly my illness doesn’t seem all that bad. Drawing Ayane has especially kept my spirits up. I could literally draw her all day. The latest picture of her, which you can see just above, is my newest DeviantArt profile picture. I may make it my Twitter cover but I will see how I feel.

For now, I will continue to rest up. Thanks for reading.^^/

  2. REVIEW

I really do like the trend of alternative battle shows where people battle each other but without fighting physically, like No Game No Life. In No Game No Life Sora and Shiro battle other rivals by playing games. I really, really like that concept of a battle and I’ve been on the lookout for a similar type of setting for some time and I found it in the form of Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma.

I would say that Food Wars is pretty much as it sounds but I would describe it as a battle of chefs. So, think of this like Hell’s Kitchen or the Great British Bake Off but the competition is on a much bigger scale. The main guy, Sora, applies to enter into Japan’s most prestigious cooking school where the pass rate is 10%… or was it 1%? Either way the school has high standards.

I didn’t really know what to expect from Food Wars but I do know that I’ve really enjoyed this anime. Some of the battle scenes were intense and I found plenty of moments really funny.

I have to admit and say that I crack up every single time Soma smirks or grins. It might annoy Erina but it certainly makes me chuckle. I actually thought that I wasn’t going to like Soma. I thought he was going to be cocky and weird. However, I find him to be very daring, fearless, but above all, really funny. Erina, a high class lady chef, puts him down many, many times but he either doesn’t get her sarcasm or he just doesn’t care. Haha. I think it’s good that he’s not intimidated by all the high class students and I’m really pleased that he managed to blend in and make a few friends, especially those from the Polar Star.

I thought he was going to be a bad chef as well judging by his loss record against his Dad. However, it turns out that Soma is pretty good and it just meant that whilst Soma is good, he is completely outmatched by the much experienced Jouchirou. It’s pretty funny how they go out of their own way to create bad food and they find victims to eat it. Haha.

I think one of the quirkiest and funniest things of this show, apart from the wit and Soma’s facial expressions, is the female cast. By this I mean that when they eat delicious food they ‘visualise’ how they feel and either dress up in flattering clothes or they are stark naked. The girls showing their skin are easy on the eye but I also find it really, really funny. It’s ridiculous but hilarious. Haha.

The character growth should also be noted. Soma’s growth as a character is good and he becomes more mature and open-minded through cooking battles and during the field trip. I would say the biggest growth goes to Megumi, not necessarily through cooking abilities but her confidence and self-belief grows.

I enjoyed many battles in this show but my favourite battles involved Soma vs Ikumi, Soma and Megumi vs Shinomiya and whenever Soma battled his Dad.

I’m not sure if Food Wars was how I expected it to be but I do know that I most certainly enjoyed watching it. The major bonus of this series is that the food on this show looks absolutely delicious and they are designed in high detail. Every time I see Soma and co cook or bake or prepare a dish I immediately get hungry.

One of my life goals now is to cook a dish that’s been shown in the Food Wars anime. =D. Will I be able to do it? That remains to be seen.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Anime Review

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon anime

  1. SYNOPSIS

When Bell was little his Grandpa would often tell him tales about heroes and how they always saved the girl from a monster. Bell kept the tales about Argonaut told by his Grandpa close to his heart. When he was old enough he became an adventurer, not only to become strong but to pick up girls in the dungeon. However, he came across a Minotaur which resulted into being saved by a beautiful girl with golden hair and golden eyes called Aiz Wallenstein. His current goal now is to catch up to his saviour and be as strong as the person that he admires.

  2. REVIEW

WARNING: I MAY GIVE SPOILERS AWAY

I look for certain things in an anime. When I look for slice of life stories with no drama I find stories like Non Non Biyori and Locodol. When I look for humorous comedy I find D-Frag and Sabagebu: Survival Game Club. When I look for good fantasy stories that involve beautiful ladies and chess pieces I find High School DxD. When I look for battles or games that don’t involve physical fighting I find No Game No Life and Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma.

Now, another requirement has been crossed off my list. I have looked for an anime that is based on a roleplaying game like Final Fantasy online but it’s more of a story than an online game. I find that aspect in the form of this anime, Dungeon Girls.[2]

It covers many aspects of online gaming when it comes to conquering certain levels of the dungeon. The adventurers come from all kinds of races from human, to elves, to animal people and so on. They can also buy armour, collect dropped items from the monsters and have weapons and armours made for them by blacksmiths. The biggest shout out to the game aspect is the levelling up. Instead of being part of link groups the adventurers are part of Familias but they can still form their own parties with other adventurers.

I pretty much like everything about this show really, especially the characters and the fights. Bell had a great growth as a character and it wasn’t all down to his Realis Phrase ability. There were times where I wanted him to get a grip but I then remind myself that he’s only fifteen years old. He’s still a young man so it’s natural that he won’t be the bravest dude in the dungeon as he’s still learning about life and the nastiness in the dungeons. However, his growth grew at a tremendous rate as he delved into the dungeon. It was literally thanks for Aiz. Because of Aiz saving him it made him strive to become stronger. He literally went from strength to strength and grew at a quick rate thanks to his ability, Realis Phrase.

His ability made it awkward for Hestia so she hid that fact from him, both to protect him for himself and from other Goddesses who might be watching in secret. She is always severely jealous of the fact that Aiz is the reason why he’s getting stronger, not her. She’s still happy for him by all means but she probably is resentful of the fact that Aiz is the cause of his growth.

I feel that Aiz isn’t the sole reason for his growth. Everyone played their parts really well. Aiz not only gave him a reason to get stronger but she also physically trained him and his combat skills improved as a result. Hestia gave him a reason to protect someone precious and one of his important people is Hestia. Not only does he see Hestia as a Goddess but he sees her as family.

Everyone at the Mistress of Abundance, Syr, Mia and Ryu all played their part by encouraging Bell and being good friends. Eina helped by introducing him to a good shop of armours which led Bell to finding an armour outfit crafted by Welf Crozzo. Lili helped by becoming his supporter, without her, he wouldn’t be able to collect so many stones. Without Welf, whom he eventually meets, he wouldn’t go down to the lower floors to fight the stronger monsters. Welf also crafted him the Ushiwakamaru weapon which was moulded from a Minotaur’s horn.

Freya played her part strongly, albeit, indirectly… if it wasn’t for her, Bell would never have learned the Firebolt move, and if it wasn’t for her, he would never have faced and beat that Minotaur. She was also the reason he overcame his fear of Minotaurs. As a result he also gained the Argonaut special manoeuvre. Freya is a wicked Goddess, yet, she probably is among the characters of this show who contributed the most to Bell’s growth. I really do like that aspect of the story. A villain who is helping a hero get stronger I think is really unique. Is it really for her own gain? Or, does she genuinely want to see him get stronger? It’s no secret that she desires him but it seems as though she’s willing to be patient, until she can get what she wants. I think Bell can feel her gaze from a distance, but he doesn’t necessarily know that she’s the source. Does he know that she exists? It will be interesting to see what happens if or when Bell meets Freya.

Freya is doing good deeds for Bell, but not necessarily for the right reason…

Apart from the nasty men who picked on Bell I do actually like all the characters from this show. I really like Hestia as she’s both cute and very, very funny. I especially enjoy the moments when she gets jealous of the other girls who come into contact with Bell. However, she’s serious when she needs to be. I also find it touching whenever she embraces Bell through comfort and relief. I think she’s the perfect Goddess for Bell. I also really enjoyed when she activated her Arcanum divine power to stop the fighting in episode 12. That was a really cool moment.

I think developing relationship with girls on all levels is the underlining theme of this show as the title is about picking up girls. Haha. Bell’s Grandpa told Bell that he can be a hero and protect girls and I think that really stuck with Bell when he grew up. I think at this moment Bell really does have a pick from all the girls in this anime.

All the ladies are really nice in their own way. Hestia is great. Syr is just really cute and innocent and has a lovely personality. Eina is very considerate but is probably a little awkward at times. The Amazon Twins, Tione and Tiona are really cool and they have really cool Amazonian looks about them. Demeter is a beauty and it’s a shame that she didn’t appear more often. Aiz is strong but very, very innocent in nature. Riveria is really cool and I like her green hair as it gives her that nature look. Ryu is awesome both in appearance and in combat. Mikoto is cute but I can’t help but wonder why she looks sad all the time. Lili was not very nice at first but she eventually came around to be a good supporter for Bell. I even somewhat like Freya… she’s beautiful and all but I do think she has a little bit of a crazy side about her and I think I’m actually intrigued by that crazy side. Haha.

If there’s one thing that I probably didn’t enjoy so much it was the way that Bell screamed every time Aiz or another girl touched him affectionately. Never mind potions or an antidote I think what Bell really needs is a throat lozenge. With the amount of screaming that he does he’s bound to get a sore throat one of these days. In all seriousness, I think it will do him good if he didn’t overreact as much as he already made Aiz sad when he ran away from her. Then again, he is fifteen so will it be expected for a boy to run away?

I think the more girls flirt with him, the more he will get accustom to it and take it in his stride. If a girl wants to show her affection towards you, you should let them.^^/

The fights were pretty awesome too. My favourite ones included the time when Bell beat that monkey to protect Hestia, to beat that Minotaur to show his growth and when he beat that Monster Rex along with Ryu, Welf, Asufi and Mikoto. They were all really intense and in my opinion they showed Bell’s growth as a person and as an adventurer.

I would have like to see Naza more and I definitely would have liked to hear her speak. She sounded like a really interesting person and I enjoyed visualising her voice when reading the Light Novel books. Sadly, the anime didn’t show her as much as I would have liked.

Bell, Hestia, Lili and Welf Endcard

In all honesty, I could talk about this forever but I feel that it would be wise if I to make it as concise as I could.

What I would really like to see is a special episode or an OVA about the time when Bell and Hestia first met. I read the epilogue in the first LN[3] book and I really, really enjoyed it. I really hope that that small chapter gets animated someday. =)

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Eleven Thoughts

Magical Cabbage End Card

I’m pleased that Shinomiya accepted Soma’s Shokugeki challenge, well, due to the interference and intimidation of Dojima. I had a feeling that Dojima would somehow get involved. I didn’t know Megumi had a particular dialect. She sounds cute though. It made me think of Marika from Nisekoi as like Megumi she slips into her natural dialect whenever she is flustered.

It’s rather unfortunate but fair that Hinako is not a judge as she would be biased towards Megumi. I wonder how she kept on escaping the rope. Perhaps she’s a ninja. Haha. She’s supposed to have a fearsome reputation but all I see is a fun and carefree side of her. She never fails to make me laugh. Tying her up was a bit harsh though.

I do feel for Megumi. It must have been a shock to learn that she was going to be the main chef and Soma was going to be her support. I can understand why Dojima made that move. If Megumi keeps on relying on Soma then it will do more harm than good. At some point she will probably have to stand on her own two feet, especially in the kitchen.

Thankfully Soma managed to snap Megumi’s nervousness away, well, clap her nervousness away as he clapped his hands into Megumi’s. He also slapped Megumi’s back to calm her down. I think the two had good chemistry whilst cooking. Soma had a good idea what Megumi had in mind to cook and prepared the ingredients in advance.

I think the highlight of this episode for me was definitely when all the judges envisioned themselves as Magical Girls, or rather, Magical Cabbage. And Hitoshi was a bird mascot. Haha. I think I’m sensing a bit of a Sailor Moon tribute. Hinako, Fuyumi and Dojima are the Sailor Girls whilst Donato is the Tuxedo guy from Sailor Moon.

Megumi’s dish looks really lovely, but will it be enough to beat Shinomiya? I think she just very well might.

Shinomiya claims that he was deliberately holding back because he didn’t want to be mean, but personally, I think he’s being arrogant. I think he’s underestimating Megumi and he’s making something basic rather than he’s special dish. In his eyes he probably doesn’t need to be at his best to beat a “student.”

I’m disappointed that we have to wait for another week until we find out what the judges decide.

Thanks for Reading. =)

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Ten Thoughts

Yuki Hero Endcard

Aww, poor Megumi. I sort of sensed that something was going to happen as soon as Shinomiya said that no one was allowed to work as a team. Megumi is a polite and selfless girl who would be the most vulnerable in that sort of predicament. Because most of the chefs there were selfish they were aggressive gathering the ingredients, leaving Megumi little to no room to grab the veg of her own. She managed to get some of the veg though so good for her.

I was gutted when she got “fired”. Her dish looks really nice and I do think that chef, Shinomiya, was really harsh to expel her on the spot. Most of the chefs are pretty ruthless in that camp so it’s not all that surprising. I am somewhat surprised that Soma managed to keep his cool enough to challenge him to a Shokugeki Battle. If Soma wins then Megumi will not be expelled. I wonder what the cost will be if Soma loses?

Having said all that I’m probably jumping the gun, for all I know Shinomiya might not accept Soma’s challenge. And for all I know alumnus probably can’t participate in Shokugeki Battles with current students of Totsuki. I’m pretty sure Shinomiya will accept his challenge and I’m sure current students can face off against alumnus. =D If or when he accepts the challenge I hope Soma wipes the floor with him.

That beginning banter between Soma and Nakiri was pretty humorous to watch. I was half expecting Erina to slap him but I did expect her to give him a lot of verbal abuse. I reckon she would have had a lot of fun playing cards with Soma. I do wonder why she didn’t take part in that challenge. Is it because she’s part of the Elite Ten of the Council and is exempt from that specific challenge? I will probably have to re-watch to see if I’ve missed anything from their banter. Her humming was good to listen to.

I enjoyed Yuki moments in this episode, especially the end card when she dresses up as a hero whilst Megumi and Ryouko were slimes. I also enjoyed seeing more of Erina’s backstory on how she was critiquing baby meals when she was a baby. It’s cute yet hilarious. Haha.

Dojima’s reaction to Soma’s name was interesting. This made me suspect immediately that he knows Soma’s Dad.

High School DxD BorN Episode Eight Thoughts

High School DxD Born

Issei used some of his wits in the battle with the pawns and has shown that he doesn’t just rely on power. He said himself that he shouldn’t just rely on power. But… how can someone communicate with boobs? I then remind myself that this is High School DxD and no one can read the female minds, well, the boobs like Issei can. Haha. He looked like a competent leader too and dictated the battle due to boob-reading. Haha. What is that technique called? Booblingual I think. I.E., Boob Translation.

Xenovia kicked butt with her two swords. Issei giving her, well, lending her the Ascalon sword has really paved off. It does seem like the stronger the emotion the devil has, the stronger they get. It was true for the case of Akeno and Rias. Because Issei promised Akeno to take her out on a date she grew humongous motivation. Rias grey humongous power as well when she was bantering with Akeno and together they took down the Queen and two Bishops.  Good for them. It was a really good idea on Koneko’s part but I can’t help but fear for Issei. He’s going to have to deal with an excited Akeno and a jealous Rias when this whole ordeal is over. XD

Ugh, Freed is back. Why does he keep coming back? I know his appearance is significant and all but I still don’t like him. XD I thought he went through a humongous power up, yet, Kiba solo’d him. I did get pumped up when listening to Freed’s speech but got even more pumped up when Diodora gave his speech. I thought Freed was bad but Diodora is a really horrible individual. At least with Freed what you see is what you get but Diodora hid his evil side behind his smile.

I’m somewhat confused with Raynare’s involvement. Did Diodora make Raynare into a Fallen Angel or did he simply plan to kill her and give her power to Asia and make Asia his Bishop? It seems like he’s planned a lot of events even before the first season of High School DxD. I feel sorry for Asia on one hand but on the other hand I think everything has worked fine as she’s having a happy life with Issei and Rias. Anyway- I was really pleased when Issei literally beat the living snot out of him.

I did expect Diodora to put up a better fight seeing as he’s a King rank and all. Then again, maybe Issei’s anger gave him a huge power-up enough to beat any kind of King. I’m glad he didn’t kill Diodora as two wrongs never make a right. Issei proved to be the bigger man by not killing him.

And Asia kneels down and prays to God and no doubt she will get one of those electric shocks to the head. That appears to be an on-going gag in the show. But wait, a light shines over Asia and she disappears! What on earth was that! Issei and Rias busted their stomachs to save Asia and she just disappears? Maybe, just a little theory in my mind… Irina was a human but then became an angel. Perhaps, Asia grew a stronger holy power and has transported to Heaven and will eventually come back. But, maybe, she’ll become an angel instead of a re-incarnated devil.

I wonder when Asia will come back. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Raynare actually comes back alive herself. It seems like she’s very important in this season and the more she keeps on being mentioned the more I think that she will come back alive. If she does I personally believe that she will be re-born as a better person. =)

Thanks for Reading. =)

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Nine Thoughts

Erina Endcard

I really do like Hinako, she’s very cute. Even though she has a fearsome reputation she acts very relaxed and sweet. I do think her moral dropped after Soma took away her Kaki-no-Tane. It was all for a good cause though as he served her that very same tea snack as part of a dish. I can’t describe it but he sort of coated the fish with the Kaki-no-Tane chips. I also really like the fact how Hinako is voiced by Mamiko Noto. I just know when a character is being voiced by Mamiko as she has that distinctive voice about her. I get drawn into her voice and characters every time. =)

Hinako summed up Soma perfectly in that he’s very creative despite time running against him. She looked pretty as a mermaid but I did crack up laughing when the man behind her had a meat-type head. I’m not really sure how else to describe it except that I thought it was funny. XD

I unexpectedly started to like Takumi in this episode. I pictured him to be an arrogant lad but I think he’s probably more awkward then arrogant. It was especially funny when he made that dramatic speech about next time he sees Soma it will be in a Shokugeki battle… only to find out that they would sit next to each other on the bus!  I guess all the long he just needed a rival and a friend who he can relate with. One thing for sure, Takumi and Soma will definitely respect each other from now on.

It looks like everyone in the Polar Star gang managed to survive by one day… for now. Now all the students have to serve 50 servings each to the muscular athletes. I felt sorry for Yuuki as she was looking forward to relax but now she can’t. The way she mellowed in despair was pretty funny to watch. It does seem rather unfair on all the students that they have to prepare all those dishes straightaway when they came back from a stern test. It’s amazing how quickly Soma prepared those 50 dishes. I hope Ikumi and Megumi and the rest of the Polar Star Gang manage to make those 50 dishes just in time.

Soma and Erina humming to the ending song was pretty fun to watch. Soma’s humming and dancing was really funny watch whilst Erina’s humming was relaxing to watch. I didn’t think they would bump into each other any time soon. I wonder what’s going to happen next. I’d imagine Erina is just going to give Soma a lot of verbal abuse. Haha.

FA Cup Trophy

It’s the FA Cup Final today and I’m really looking forward to it. As I understand it if Villa win the cup, they play in the Europa League next season, if Arsenal win, Southampton play in the Europa League next season.

Either way I do feel sorry for the English teams who play in the Europa League as it must be gruelling for them to play on a Thursday and a Sunday. Look what happened to Everton. They finished at the bottom half of the table. I get the feeling that the same could happen with Southampton. They had a fantastic season last season but if they play in the Europa League next season then I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t do as well as they did this season. Having said all that, they played above expectations this season and just ran out of steam near the end. I’m very pleased for them. =)

Anyway- my FA Cup prediction.

It’s going to be Arsenal 3-1 Aston Villa. I think Arsenal will just nudge Villa out but I don’t think they’ll keep a clean sheet. Let the fun times roll. =)

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Eight Thoughts

Food Wars Shokugeki no Soma

Every time I see Soma’s smug and confident face I literally crack up.

To get into Totsuki Culinary Academy you have to be pretty skilled and pass the introduction test. However, even though the passing rate is like 1% or 10% there are still quite a lot of students attending, especially in the first year. Why so many? It turns out that the real test begins on this camp trip. More students will no doubt be expelled and sent home.

I was expecting to see Soma’s Dad there as he is probably one of the best chefs in the world. But, the chefs at that camp have to be alumni of that school and Jouichirou did not necessarily go to that school. I suspect he did though but it will probably be revealed later.

The Takumi twins and Erina appear to have passed the test no problem so it’s now up to Soma and Megumi to make sure that they pass the test. Out of the Polar Star Gang I hope Ryouko and Yuuki pass their tests as I’m rather fond of them. I wouldn’t mind if Shun passes too. As for Zenji and Shouji… I wouldn’t lose sleep if they failed. Haha.

I knew that Takumi was going to be arrogant and I was really pleased when he was brought down to size by Hinako, the adorable chef teacher. It was especially funny when Soma was taking the mickey out of him. Even Takumi’s twin brother, Isami, thought that Takumi made a fool out of himself. XD

Megumi, Ryouko and Yuuki Eyecatch

I’m really looking forward to seeing what sort of dish Soma and Megumi come up with. I also hope we get more glimpses of Ikumi and we see more of Hinako, I think she really is cute. It was especially cute when she casually started to eat a packet of crisps on a side table. I don’t think many chefs would be that laid back.

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Seven Thoughts

Food Wars Shokugeki no Soma

Those don dishes look delicious. I really do wonder if these recipes and dishes actually exist in real life. I most certainly would love to try them out for myself if they really did.

Anyway, I’m glad Soma won in the end. I actually half-expected the battle between him and Ikumi to end in a draw. It’s a bonus that Soma won because it wiped the smirk from Erina’s face. I noticed something as well. Even though Soma is very confident in his abilities he’s actually very humble when he battles his opponents. I would have thought that he would gloat about his victory but he didn’t, in fact, he was actually very nice towards Ikumi and gave her an affectionate nickname.

I partly started to dislike Ikumi when I first saw her as I knew that she was somehow associated with Erina. I figured she’d be just as arrogant as she is. She did look down on Yuki because his ingredients were “cheap.” However, my opinion changed of her when she tasted Soma’s dish.

Her Father was horrible to her when he said that he wanted Ikumi, his daughter, to be strong and not be ladylike. He’s quite a jerk if you ask me. This was probably a traumatic experience that stemmed from her childhood and made her put on this act all this time. She put on this front of being tough and confident but really she was desperate to be herself. To me, so far, she has more redeeming features than Erina does and Soma has earned her respect, perhaps even more than that…

That bit at the end was hilarious. I actually thought that Soma was going to join the Don Research Society, but like Ikumi, I discovered that this was far from the truth. I actually feel really sorry for Ikumi as she was now required to join some club due to the conditions of the battle. Not only this but Soma, who laid down the conditions and the person who she wanted to see the most, ended up not joining… I’m sure she’ll get her chance to speak with him again though. I have no doubt about that. =)

Kanichi was especially funny when he kept on trying to pawn off his Don title to Soma and Ikumi. Honestly, if he has no interest in being the Don of his club than he might has well allowed Erina to use her authority to shut his club down. Haha. Perhaps he wants to be just a member and not have responsibility of a Don.

I liked how Soma used handmade picked plum paste and mixed it into the rice. Soma has shown in this episode as he has done in the previous episodes that the price tag doesn’t show its true value in the product. It’s how you bring out the best of the product with your skills, knowledge and creativity when cooking. I wonder if that paste was inspired by Megumi. I remember that Soma said that Megumi gave him a good idea for a recipe. I’m pretty confident to say that it’s probably that. =)

Urara is also funny. She pretends to act all cute and ladylike but really she’s a completely different person on the inside. Her eye catch is just as amusing.

Soma, Megumi, Ikumi and Kanichi Eyecatch

Judging by what I see in the preview it looks like that Soma’s next encounter involves an arrogant looking blonde dude with a chef’s hat. I hope Soma cuts him down to size, but not literally…

Thanks for reading. =)

Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma Episode Six Thoughts

Food Wars Shokugeki no Soma

Good grief. I knew that the new mean girl was going to have a face-off with someone from the Polar Star Dormitory but I never thought she would be facing Soma so soon. It was rather nice of Soma to prevent the closure of the Don R’s club, or at least delay the inevitable. Soma really is brave to challenge the new girl by competing against her at her own game, meat. Well, if you look at it another way, brave might not be the appropriate word. Haha.

Ikumi is quite a beauty and I really like her appearance style. What I especially like about her though is her voice. It’s like she growls softly and sensually in a hypnotic way. Through research I discovered that her voice actor, Shizuka Ishigami, also voices Syr Flover from DanMachi. Syr has a soft and sweet voice and she sounds nothing like Ikumi at all but they both delight my ears. =)

Anyway, I’m somewhat nervous for Soma. I really didn’t think they’d go against each other soon. Will this battle last a couple of episodes or will it just be one episode? It looks like Megumi is going to help out with Soma and Kanichi. In some ways Megumi does remind me of Stephanie Dola from No Game No Life. Like Stephanie, Megumi is forced to try things, participate in things and is on the end of insults.

On this occasion Soma dragged Megumi along to this Don R’s club and she actually inspired him to come up with a dish. Like Stephanie Dola, even if Megumi appears to be “useless” she has actually played an important part and inspired Soma. Soma, in turn, actually inspired Megumi to add a bit of honey into her own rice recipe for breakfast. Good for her! She really is a wife in the making. If I was Soma I would slap a ring around that but he’s too passionate about food to even care about romance… for now. I think Megumi is going to play a huge part in the upcoming battle, perhaps she’ll get over her stage fright with the help of Soma. =)

I don’t really like how Erina is crushing all the clubs for her own gain, even if she is a pretty face. She does make me laugh a lot so I don’t dislike her completely. Kanichi is pretty funny how he kept on losing confidence and how his big hair started to grow back when his confidence started to come back. Haha. I think he secretly enjoyed being backed up against the wall by Ikumi.
