Non Non Biyori Repeat Anime Review

Non Non Biyori Repeat Anime

  1. REVIEW

If you have been following my blogs you will know how much I like Non Non Biyori. I couldn’t tell you the amount of times that I have re-watched the first series and I have been eagerly waiting for the second season to air. I’m not really sure why the second season is called ‘Repeat.’ I see it as like it’s repeating the four seasons inside the world of Non Non Biyori.

I would be lying if I said that this was exciting and had a strong plot but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t interesting. The diversity and quirks of the characters are great and even though they are different all the girls share a beautiful friendship. It’s especially intriguing to see how Hotaru, a girl transferred from Tokyo, adapts to the countryside.

To me the second season had everything. It has beautiful scenery that has instantly captured my interest but I find that it’s the music that draws you into the art of the show as well as the simplicity of the story. However, I find that it’s the characters that make me enjoy it much more.

You have Natsumi who is probably the female equivalent of Bart Simpson, Komari who wants to play the big sister role but really is actually childish, Renge who is eccentric but very cute and Hotaru who is shy and polite. Some of the activities and adventures that they get up to are interesting and very amusing. We occasionally get a flash back of when Renge was a baby and that is definitely worth a watch.

Even though the story might be easy-going, it did tuck at my heartstring at times at the beautiful friendship that the girls share with other, especially the bond between Renge and Kaede (aka, Candy Store.) It truly is wonderful how all the girls get on with each other despite being different, especially the new girl from Tokyo, Hotaru. It goes to show that even a city girl can adapt to the countryside.

I’m not really sure what else to say except that I think this is the perfect follow up to the first series. This is definitely one of my favourite anime of all time and I don’t think I’ve ever felt this strongly about a show since Thomas the Tank Engine. For those who may not know, Thomas was a pinnacle part of my life when I was growing up. This show literally cheers me up if ever I’m down and I always get Goosebumps whenever I listen to the songs.

There’s not much to this anime but I feel that the philosophy “less is more” sums up Non Non Biyori perfectly. =)

Non Non Biyori Repeat Collage

I know this is the review for Non Non Biyori Repeat but I feel that my thoughts also apply to the first series as it’s no different story and setting wise. The only down side is that 12 weeks have gone very, very fast. However, the upside, I can watch them all back to back without having to wait. =)

I also drew a Renge picture as a Mother’s Day card as Renge is her favourite character. You can find the link below.

Non Non Biyori Volume One Review

Non Non Biyori Manga Volume One

  1. REVIEW

I think I enjoyed reading the Non Non Biyori manga as much as I enjoyed watching the TV series. Non Non Biyori is one of my all-time favourite anime.

As I was reading this book I kept on picturing the soundtrack in my head as well as the characters voices. I’m really pleased that I watched the anime first as I found that reading the Non Non book made it all the more enjoyable. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

I really do like how simple this story is. There’s no drama or major plot it’s just a fun and relaxing story about four girls living in the countryside, or as Renge likes to call it, “the boonies.” Haha.

It can probably be argued that there is no real plot in this story, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t interesting. I like how diverse and quirky the girls are and I think it’s interesting to see how they live their lives in the “boonies.” It’s equally as intriguing to see how Hotaru, a girl who moved from Tokyo, adapts to the countryside.

I think it’s incredibly quirky to find a school that has a mixture of elementary students and junior high students. I’ve never known a school like it. However, I did go to an SEN school[1] with the age range of 2 years to 19 years. In my school’s last year I think there were less than 30 pupils in the whole school. That still doesn’t compare to the likes of the Asashigaoka Branch School though!

Some of the things that the girls say and do can be very humorous. Kazuho and the big brother are funny in their own right. Suguru doesn’t need to say anything to be funny and Kazuho’s irresponsibility makes me wonder how she is able to become teacher in the first place. Above everything else I like the relationship, the friendship and the affection that all the girls show to each other. It’s nice to see them all getting along.

There’s nothing for me to say really except that I really, really enjoyed this manga. There’s not much to this story but I feel that the philosophy “less is more” sums up Non Non Biyori perfectly. =)

Ps, It’s also interesting to note that Non Non Biyori was based on the one shot story, Toko Toko. I never knew that until I read this book.

[1] SEN means Special Educational Needs. It’s basically a school that caters the needs of students who have ASD, physical disability, or generally have additional needs.

My Christmas Tradition

Father Christmas

Ho, Ho, Ho.^^/

I have plenty of traditions at this time of year. I watch Christmas films, watch Thomas special episodes, listen to Christmas music and watch football on Boxing Day. My two most important traditions are hanging out with peeps and wrapping presents. You see, I get a thrill wrapping presents on Christmas Eve evening.

However, I’ve come down with a bad cold for the past few weeks. So, I wrapped them early so I could attend my sister’s Christmas Eve gathering. It was a good night and I made sure to work the room and talk to everyone. =) I don’t like feeling sorry for myself so I tend to not tell anyone if I have a cold or when I’m poorly. Someone did point out that my nose was really red. That was no brainer though; it was obvious that I was auditioning to be Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer. 😉 Haha.

I woke up really late this morning and we, as a family, opened up our presents quite late. We would all sit in a circle, Dad would pass out the presents, and we would open them one at a time. However, with Santa sacks, we just divulge in them right before we open up the presents from friends and family. Of course, I know Father Christmas doesn’t really bring our presents but me and my Mum still get Santa sacks. It’s all part of the fun, so why not? 🙂

I got a lot of nice presents from Father Christmas and from my family too. From the top of my head, I got…

  • High School DxD Volume 3
  • Monster Musume Volume 5
  • D-Frag Volume 2
  • Marvel Socks
  • Superman and Marvel loungers
  • Marvel T-Shirt
  • Is This a Zombie DVD
  • Lion onesie
  • Captain America: Winter Soldier Blu-Ray
  • Thomas: Tale of the Brave
  • Thomas the Tank Engine Annual 2015
  • Winnie the Pooh the complete collection
  • A very well knitted beard. Haha. =D
  • Non Non Biyori outro music
  • New set of dark striped pyjamas

So far it’s been really positive. Before I set off for my sister’s gathering I saw, what I personally believe was a shooting star. I know I might be unwell and not thinking straight but my eyes never deceive me. =) Well, it was either a shooting star or a comet. However, I’m choosing to believe that it was a shooting star. My face was spread in an exasperated gawp…after 20 seconds I made several wishes at once. I wished for Christmas and New Year to be good for everyone, to over-think less and to be a successful author in 2015. =) If it wasn’t a shooting star then my next guess would have been Father Christmas. Haha.

So far, it’s working, as everyone I know is having a very pleasant Christmas. I keep on falling asleep today as I’m not well but chilling out is the best way for a speedy recovery. =)

I’m planning to go out on several shopping trips and ordering some stuff as well. Through browsing on Amazon I discovered that Seven Seas, my current favourite publishers, have actually acquired licensed for Non Non Biyori manga! I’m extremely excited about this. For the past year I’ve always said to myself that if anyone was going to license Non Non Biyori, it was going to be Seven Seas. It’s not released until 30th June 2015. Aside from my birthday, it’s another reason to look forward to 6 months from now. =)

THANKS FOR READING

After the Christmas meal, and breaking the wish bone, I’ll probably spend the rest of the evening watching the Christmas trilogy of Only Fools and Horses and Captain America with my family. Then, I anticipate an early night. Even if I am unwell, I can still think happy thoughts. =D

For the fun of it, here is a picture of me dressing up in my Lion onesie and wearing that fake beard. Haha.
