Life and Decisions

manga_girls__yoko_littner__colour_version__by_alphadeltazeta-dalu1j3

I made a big decision today over a matter that I’ve been debating for years regarding writing an auto-biography about my life with Autism. Basically, I decided against it.

Since school I always envisioned myself writing an auto-biography as I felt it was my duty to rather than wanting to. Every time I dug down to my memory roots I would always end up feeling sad and feeding myself negativity. Nowadays I’m blessed with the fact that I can move on from the past but I had big problems when I was little, especially when trying to communicate with others. It was painful and frustrating not being able to talk to the point where it felt like they happened yesterday. I can still remember the pain I was in and how sad I was.

One day, today, I thought to myself if this was really worth it. Is it worth digging into my past and re-living those painful memories for the sake of sharing my story and possibly making some money through book sales? I came to the decision that it’s not worth it. I don’t want to think about those times let alone talk about them so why should I torture myself? I have a lot of wonderful stuff going on in my life right now and no matter how I look at it, living in the present, today, is far superior than re-calling the memories of the past. =)

With that, let’s talk about how good today is. =D

*

My life is wonderful at the minute. I’m editing my book after a few family discussions and I’m in the process of creating a huge database for my fantasy book so I can keep on top of my own information. =D

I’m really happy and touched by the amount of support I’m receiving throughout social media and art sites. =D I’m just happy if one person looks at my art but some of my art are getting more than 1 view. Some get over 10, some over 100 and remarkably some over 1000. Before I joined Deviantart I never would have predicted that I would receive so much activity with my art. Joining Deviantart is definitely one of my best life decisions to date.

I’m in the midst of tackling some fanart requests as I feel I’m ready to give it a go. So far I’ve completed 1 request out of 5 and at this moment I’m coping with the pressure rather well. I was asked to update my Yoko Littner picture by adding more colours and correcting the length of her right glove.

The final good news is that I recently reached the landmark of 30 completed pictures from my Manga Girls series. I find this exciting as this simple style of black and white with only the hair and eyes coloured allows me the freedom and time to complete pictures quicker. If I include backgrounds I focus too hard and take too long but if it’s just the lady, I can go all out as drawing girls seems to be my forte.

I amended and employed plenty of styles along the way and I actually think I get better every time I touch the tablet with my pen.

Thank you for reading, have a great weekend everyone. =D

Becoming an Uncle

This week, well, the past few days, have been most exciting as I became an Uncle for the very first time.

Lucy Mei was born on 27th September at the very same day when the full moon was out. I also came to learn that the blood red moon was scheduled for the early hours of the following morning. I felt that this was a good omen for her. She was born at the time 19:27, on the 27th day of September and she has 7 letters in her name. Safe to say that I believe that the number 7 is her lucky number. =D

I met her in person the this evening and I must say that she is a beauty. I held her for a good few minutes and she kept on yawning and drooling. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but I didn’t think she would be relaxed and just chilling in my arms. Holding a baby is fun, especially seeing as she is now my niece.

One of the best things about being an Uncle now is that not only do I get to watch her grow up but it means that I have someone to watch Thomas the Tank Engine with. =D

From now on, whenever I look at the full moon or the number 7 I will be reminded of the day when Lucy was born.^^/

  2. REVIEW

I really do like the trend of alternative battle shows where people battle each other but without fighting physically, like No Game No Life. In No Game No Life Sora and Shiro battle other rivals by playing games. I really, really like that concept of a battle and I’ve been on the lookout for a similar type of setting for some time and I found it in the form of Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma.

I would say that Food Wars is pretty much as it sounds but I would describe it as a battle of chefs. So, think of this like Hell’s Kitchen or the Great British Bake Off but the competition is on a much bigger scale. The main guy, Sora, applies to enter into Japan’s most prestigious cooking school where the pass rate is 10%… or was it 1%? Either way the school has high standards.

I didn’t really know what to expect from Food Wars but I do know that I’ve really enjoyed this anime. Some of the battle scenes were intense and I found plenty of moments really funny.

I have to admit and say that I crack up every single time Soma smirks or grins. It might annoy Erina but it certainly makes me chuckle. I actually thought that I wasn’t going to like Soma. I thought he was going to be cocky and weird. However, I find him to be very daring, fearless, but above all, really funny. Erina, a high class lady chef, puts him down many, many times but he either doesn’t get her sarcasm or he just doesn’t care. Haha. I think it’s good that he’s not intimidated by all the high class students and I’m really pleased that he managed to blend in and make a few friends, especially those from the Polar Star.

I thought he was going to be a bad chef as well judging by his loss record against his Dad. However, it turns out that Soma is pretty good and it just meant that whilst Soma is good, he is completely outmatched by the much experienced Jouchirou. It’s pretty funny how they go out of their own way to create bad food and they find victims to eat it. Haha.

I think one of the quirkiest and funniest things of this show, apart from the wit and Soma’s facial expressions, is the female cast. By this I mean that when they eat delicious food they ‘visualise’ how they feel and either dress up in flattering clothes or they are stark naked. The girls showing their skin are easy on the eye but I also find it really, really funny. It’s ridiculous but hilarious. Haha.

The character growth should also be noted. Soma’s growth as a character is good and he becomes more mature and open-minded through cooking battles and during the field trip. I would say the biggest growth goes to Megumi, not necessarily through cooking abilities but her confidence and self-belief grows.

I enjoyed many battles in this show but my favourite battles involved Soma vs Ikumi, Soma and Megumi vs Shinomiya and whenever Soma battled his Dad.

I’m not sure if Food Wars was how I expected it to be but I do know that I most certainly enjoyed watching it. The major bonus of this series is that the food on this show looks absolutely delicious and they are designed in high detail. Every time I see Soma and co cook or bake or prepare a dish I immediately get hungry.

One of my life goals now is to cook a dish that’s been shown in the Food Wars anime. =D. Will I be able to do it? That remains to be seen.

Monster Musume Anime Review

Monster Musume Anime

  1. REVIEW

As a Monster Musume fan I was very excited when I learned that it was going to receive an anime show. However, I was half nervous especially when the official MonMusu[1] Twitter page was doing a survey asking us fans what scenes we definitely wanted to see from the manga. If they were doing this survey did this mean that they were going to omit certain scenes from the manga?

I’ve been watching this TV show very keenly and I must say that it’s much, much better than I thought that it was going to be. I was very impressed with it and I found myself laughing just as hard watching the anime as I did when I was reading the manga books. The anime does include a lot of scenes from the books but in order to make it flow they mixed it up a bit.

This really is a funny anime and it is very self-aware and it does take the mickey out of itself. I especially like it when the monster girls make a pun or a quip referring to their animal body parts. I think that’s one of the underlining charms of the series. The animal parts are not just the funny part of the series, what also does it for me are the characters and the well-timed lewdness. Haha.

I do think that there is more to MonMusu than the comedy aspects. The whole point of the story is for the Subspecies[2] to integrate into human society. That was made possible due to the Interspecies Cultural Bill which allowed the Subspecies to live in a human’s house as their guest to learn about human society.

The main guy, Kimihito Kurusu, was not chosen to be host but became a host for a lamia, Miia, due to Sumisu’s error. However, instead of complaining, he embraced Miia with open arms and became a very good and gracious host. Eventually he welcomed more additions to his non-blood family such as a harpy, a centaur, a mermaid, an Arachne and even an illegal subspecies, a slime.

I was somewhat concerned how the anime would handle Kimihito. Main guys in this type of show tend to be portrayed from one extreme to the other. However, like the manga in this show he has the perfect balance of the sort of chap that I like to see more often in an anime. He’s very aware that all of his beautiful guests love him dearly but he doesn’t cower away from their feelings, even if they do nearly kill him time and time again. Haha. He’s also very interested in them but he’s holding himself back due to his morals and he doesn’t want to break the law. What I especially like is the fact that he is not perverted in the slightest. You can be interested in a lady without being perverted. =)

All the girls in this show are brilliant and there isn’t a single character that I don’t like… apart from the racist couple and that dodgy chap from episode 6 but I consider them irrelevant. 😉 Kimihito accepts all the girls for who they are and I especially like it when he has those tender and affectionate moments with those girls. I find them very touching to the point where I nearly shed a tear. =)

To conclude, Monster Musume is very lewd but it has much more to offer than rudeness and I think that’s what makes MonMusu very special. I’ve been waiting for an anime adaptation for a very long time and not only did it meet above my expectations it has entered my top ten favourite anime of all time. =D

I want to say a big thanks to Okayado for bringing Monster Musume to life and he has actually inspired me in many ways, especially human relationships with mythical creatures. In my stories I always wanted to have a human man marry a mermaid/lamia/harpy etc but I never went through with the idea. I automatically assumed that the reader’s reaction would be negative towards me and my story.

Since Okayado introduced MonMusu and the manga became a hit in the western market he inspired me and encouraged me. Ever since MonMusu I’ve been getting epiphany after epiphany and I’m actually getting closer to getting my main story finished.

Thank you Okayado, you’re one of my favourite Mangaka[3] of all time. =)
Thanks for Reading,

Non Non Biyori Repeat Anime Review

Non Non Biyori Repeat Anime

  1. REVIEW

If you have been following my blogs you will know how much I like Non Non Biyori. I couldn’t tell you the amount of times that I have re-watched the first series and I have been eagerly waiting for the second season to air. I’m not really sure why the second season is called ‘Repeat.’ I see it as like it’s repeating the four seasons inside the world of Non Non Biyori.

I would be lying if I said that this was exciting and had a strong plot but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t interesting. The diversity and quirks of the characters are great and even though they are different all the girls share a beautiful friendship. It’s especially intriguing to see how Hotaru, a girl transferred from Tokyo, adapts to the countryside.

To me the second season had everything. It has beautiful scenery that has instantly captured my interest but I find that it’s the music that draws you into the art of the show as well as the simplicity of the story. However, I find that it’s the characters that make me enjoy it much more.

You have Natsumi who is probably the female equivalent of Bart Simpson, Komari who wants to play the big sister role but really is actually childish, Renge who is eccentric but very cute and Hotaru who is shy and polite. Some of the activities and adventures that they get up to are interesting and very amusing. We occasionally get a flash back of when Renge was a baby and that is definitely worth a watch.

Even though the story might be easy-going, it did tuck at my heartstring at times at the beautiful friendship that the girls share with other, especially the bond between Renge and Kaede (aka, Candy Store.) It truly is wonderful how all the girls get on with each other despite being different, especially the new girl from Tokyo, Hotaru. It goes to show that even a city girl can adapt to the countryside.

I’m not really sure what else to say except that I think this is the perfect follow up to the first series. This is definitely one of my favourite anime of all time and I don’t think I’ve ever felt this strongly about a show since Thomas the Tank Engine. For those who may not know, Thomas was a pinnacle part of my life when I was growing up. This show literally cheers me up if ever I’m down and I always get Goosebumps whenever I listen to the songs.

There’s not much to this anime but I feel that the philosophy “less is more” sums up Non Non Biyori perfectly. =)

I know this is the review for Non Non Biyori Repeat but I feel that my thoughts also apply to the first series as it’s no different story and setting wise. The only down side is that 12 weeks have gone very, very fast. However, the upside, I can watch them all back to back without having to wait. =)

I also drew a Renge picture as a Mother’s Day card as Renge is her favourite character. You can find the link below.

A Time to Celebrate

20150907_174308

It’s been a very good week for me. One of the main reasons is the fact that I finally have my very own Summer House. It’s like a teal colour with a veranda at the front. I’m really happy with it, so happy that I decided to have a celebratory gathering with my family.

I always wanted to have a nice little cabin or summer house to write in and to draw in. If Roald Dahl can have a cabin, then surely I could, and that’s why I got one. It took quite a bit of time but it was worth the wait.

I also spent some time baking brownies for my sister as it was her birthday recently. I intended to make it like a cake and spell out her name in the form of smarties. However, it didn’t come out as I had planned. The tray was too big so I think it ended up too thin. I couldn’t really spell out her name in smarties as well as they were breaking up the brownies. Whoops! Still, she thought it tasted good and she appreciated it and that was the main thing.

I completed the second run through of the Atelier Shallie game. All I need now is to earn 6 trophies overall and when I do it will be the first ever time that I earn a platinum trophy on the PlayStation. =D

The Mario Maker game came today and the whole family had a go at playing some of the custom made levels online. We are all very impressed with the system and I think it’s really brilliant of Nintendo to allow fans to create their own Mario-esque levels. I’m going to really enjoy creating plenty of levels.

To top it all off I had a humongous epiphany for my main fantasy story. I figured out its setting for the overall story as well as the settings for the first book. I’ve been spending literally day after day brainstorming all ideas big and small.

This week has been a very good week and I intend to keep up this trend. =)

Ps, the brownies picture is the same brownies that I baked and prepared for my sister’s birthday.

Monster Musume Volume 7 Review

Monster Musume Volume 7 Cover

  1. REVIEW

This was really fun to read.

The Monster Mums are really funny and very pretty and for me they were the highlights of this book. If I were to describe their looks and personalities I would say that they were exaggerated versions of their daughters. Miia’s mum is more sexually assertive, Papi’s mum is more of a birdbrain and Cerea’s mum has bigger pride.

I laughed many times but I was also touched at times too. Conflict did rise between the Monster Mums and their daughters, especially when Kimihito was involved. The conflict I think happened due to the cultural differences between the Monster Mums and Kimihito and the Mums are not used to the social custom in human society.

I was a bit surprised to learn a few things, especially Miia’s original intention for studying the Interspecies Programme. Even though she advances on Kimihito often it does make me realise just how innocent she really is. I admire her strength and resolve. Cerea’s and Papi’s resolve are equally as strong and I think it’s pretty cool as they genuinely like Kimihito for who he is and likewise he likes all the girls for who they are.

I think Suu’s hit the nail on the head. Marrying all the girls would be the most sensible solution and I think if monogamy was legal and plausible in Japan then I think he would marry them all without question. Perhaps something will change or a loophole will come up but for now he needs to work hard to find his bride to be. I do think he’s over-doing it though and it will be interesting to see what will happen in the next book.

This book made me laugh but also made me anxious, but in a good way.

I never realised that Lala’s skin colour was blue. I like Lala and for some reason I think the blue skin makes her more cute and unique. Her role was rather small in this book but I feel that her panel time was very significant. I’m not sure I understand the words that she speaks but I think her feelings towards Kimihito are no different than the rest of the Monster Girls. =)

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Manga Volume One Review

DanMachi manga vol 1

  1. REVIEW

This was fun to read. I felt that I was able to visualise and understand the story much better with the combination of reading the Light Novel books and watching the anime previously. By reading the volume one of Dungeon Girls[1] I felt that I was able to understand the concept and settings of the story much better, especially the God’s Blessing, Falna.

I feel that the story has a lot of RPG elements and I think it’s quirky that the manga is published by SquareEnix over in Japan. I think it would be really cool if this manga became an actual RPG and/or an online game. I would become an adventurer and join Hestia’s guild in a heartbeat. Haha. Getting back on track…

I like it how Bell admits to himself that the reason he became an adventurer is because he wanted to meet girls. He wanted to be a young maiden’s hero so he ventured down to the fifth level of the dungeon, nearly got himself killed and was saved by a beautiful princess… the sword princess called Aiz Wallenstein. Now, with his heart and conscious much “purer”, his new goal is not to pick up girls but to catch up to the lady in question.

Getting close to Aiz won’t be easy though as she is a member of the Loki Familia whilst Bell is the sole member of Hestia Familia. Hestia is cute, nice and very funny but she is also a little childish. I get the sense with Hestia that even though she is childish she will be sensible and mature when she needs to be. I do find it cute when she snuggles up to Bell though.

Bell shouldn’t focus primarily on Aiz as Hestia is a keeper but he’s probably holding himself back from Hestia as she is his Goddess. Speaking of keepers and slapping rings around lovely ladies, Syr and Eina are also lovely. It was funny when Syr played innocent to get the better of Bell. If I was Bell I certainly would never beat Syr. She is far too cute to compete with. She’s also a lot of fun to draw.

For those who are interested you can find my chibi version of her in the link below.

Chibi Syr

It was rather cool to see how far Hestia would go to help Bell, to the point where she would do the Dogeza in front of Hephaistos. She really is a nice Goddess.

I got a little bit pumped up when Loki and Freya had their little “chat,”… I wonder if Aiz knew if Freya was referring to Bell. Speaking of which, when Bell ran out of the restaurant Aiz said Bell’s name in her head. As far as I knew Aiz never met or knew Bell previously. Perhaps the explanation is simple. I did feel sorry for her when everyone in her fellow Familia members laughed at her for “scaring” Bell away.

Freya is quite the cunning Goddess. She’s beautiful but I do get the sense that she’s very evil and sneaky especially as Loki called her out specifically. Bell and Hestia had better keep on their toes and stay away from Freya as far away as they can as I get the sense that Freya sees herself as above the law.

Thinking about Bell’s situation reminds of the song, “run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run!!”

I wasn’t going to review this as really I didn’t feel that there wasn’t anything to say seeing as I’ve already reviewed the Light Novel and all the Dungeon Girls episodes. However, I had a sudden change of heart when I re-read Volume 1 manga and when Volume 2 arrived this very morning. My excitement took over and in the end I decided to share my thoughts.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma Episode 16 Thoughts

Food Wars Episode 16 Eyecatch

I really enjoyed the battle between Soma and his Dad and I liked the judging panel. I thought it was amusing how Megumi was elected to be the third judge when she was in her half-awake state.

It’s funny because in episode one I hugely underestimated Soma’s cooking abilities. As he lost to his Dad for the 489th time and he made unorthodox dishes I automatically assumed that he was going to be a bad cook. However, since entering the academy he’s been on a big role and is especially impressive when it comes to adapting quickly to situations. In this battle, it doesn’t really show that Soma is a bad cook it just shows how incredible Jouichirou is as a chef.

That apple dish that Soma dished up looked really nice. I think Satoshi and Fumio in her younger days would make a nice couple. It was fun to watch them dance together in their visualisations. It was funny when Megumi was visualising herself as Snow White being picked up by a prince with an apple head!

However, it seems that Jouchirou deliberately dropped by to give Soma motivation, I.E., beating him as it seems that losing just makes Soma more determined. Soma always knew that he was going to lose but he’s never been a bad loser, so far he has been dignified in defeat.

It was good that Satoshi gave him constructive feedback. Satoshi is part of the elite ten so his opinions, when it comes to cuisine, are worth taking on board.

So, Ryouko and Yuki wanted Jouchirou’s advice and tips to improve their skills as chefs. I think really, deep down, they just wanted to smooch up to him because they fancy him. Haha. Well, they fell in love with his cooking more like!

It was interesting how Erina sensed Jouchirou was nearby and ordered the car to stop at once so she could see his idol. It will be interesting to see her reaction once she discovers that Jouchirou is Soma’s Dad.

It seems that I enjoy Food Wars more as the weekly episodes go by. I’m looking forward to the next one. =)

Food Wars Episode 16 Endcard

I’m looking forward to WWE Night of Champions as Sting is challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World title. It would be amazing if Sting became world champion but I really can’t see WWE allowing that to happen unfortunately. It would be quite a send-off for Sting if this was the case as I got the impression from Sting’s speech on Raw that he intends to retire soon. Then again, perhaps I read his speech wrong?

In an ideal world for me Sting would win the championship from Seth Rollins. It wouldn’t be just for the heavyweight championship either. I think he should have put the United States title on the line too. That way Sting would not only win the WWE title but he would win the former WCW secondary title of the United States. I think that would have been an amazing touch but alas John Cena is challenging Rollins for the US title.

After beating Seth Rollins at Night of Champions Sting would face the Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series. Survivor Series would be the most appropriate match for Undertaker to challenge Sting as both Undertaker and Sting made their WWE debut at Survivor Series. It could be the best way for Undertaker and Sting to retire if it’s appropriate. If not, then perhaps at Wrestlemania?

To get back on track-

I’m somewhat behind with Food Wars and other anime as of late as I’ve been busy with other projects such as renovating my garden and the summer house. However, I have found some time to myself and I’m taking this opportunity to play catch up as well as playing Atelier Shallie’s second play through.

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea

Atelier Shallie Game

  1. REVIEW

It’s finally happened, after getting this game two months ago for my birthday I have completed the full run through of Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea on my first attempt.

I really enjoyed the storyline that went with it and I liked it especially how all the playable characters in battle were mostly female. I would like to see this as a TV series as I reckon I would enjoy it.

It was really quirky that two of the leading characters shared a nickname, Shallie. I got the impression that the idea of a dusk world followed on from the previous game, Atelier Escha and Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky. Well, it did, seeing as its part of the Dusk Trilogy. Haha. I think in all honesty I do like this game better than Atelier Escha as I personally found it more interesting and it was easier to understand. In the Escha game I got the bad end three times because I didn’t really understand what to do. However, in this game, I found it much more straightforward and found that I hardly needed prompts or help guides from the internet.

I really liked the story and particular that it didn’t all revolve around the dusk plot. Stera wanted to be a chief of her village and Lotte wanted to learn to fly a broom. I must admit when I say that I really, really enjoyed practising “flying” with Lotte when Wilbell gave her the task to fly. I also really enjoyed when Lotte made her Flying Board and flew it around the harbour. Haha. I really do like Lotte, she’s a really funny and bright girl. I knew I was going to like her as soon as a I was given the option.

You can find my art of her on DeviantArt here…

Shallie

All the characters were good too and I liked how Wilbell had a bigger role in this story. She was good in the Escha game and felt that she was underappreciated so I’m especially pleased that she was an important character in this game. I downloaded Escha as an additional character to battle with and I find her very handy. It was fun to fight with Homura, Miruca and Kortes but my favourite people to battle with (besides Wilbell) were Jurie and Keithgriff. They were elegant and cool in their attacks.

I thought the battles and the synthesising alchemy was good. I found them simple and straightforward for the most part. I think finding items through fishing and mining was quite refreshing and fun. It’s those little quips that made me enjoy this more than Escha.

I did get somewhat frustrated at times during chapter 9 and 10 as I got rather confused as to what I should do. I found some of the bosses really hard to beat so I had to fight some of them on the easiest level. Even then, it was no walkover. I barely beat the King of the Beasts and the Prototype 0 on the easiest level. I did manage to beat 5 major bosses on the normal level so I wasn’t too disheartened.

I take into account that I’m not a passionate gamer, I’m a casual gamer so it’s to be expected that I don’t do well in these sort of games. Having said all that on this first run through I did manage to complete 73% of trophies in the game. This lifted my pride and spirit. I chose the end of where Lotte stays in Stellard and synthesised alchemy stuff with Stera and Miruca.

It was definitely worth all the hours that it took to complete Lotte’s route. On the second run through I will try and enjoy the story more and try and not complete every single life task. I could try and go for that but I found that trying to complete every single step and task to be somewhat tedious and detracted from what was actually important- having fun.

Roll on round two!

Ps, it was cool to see Ayesha make a small cameo.
